With everyone talking about overall fighter of the year, who is the fighter who has broken out into everyone's attention in 2014.

Gotta be Terence Crawford , after the Burns fight he fought what most people thought was the best boxer on the planet in Gamboa and he totally controlled and schooled him until it got stopped which was a massive statement then beat the tough ray beltran last time out 2015 looks very exciting for the Nebraska man

Crawford for me by a distance

Walter win was impressive, he is impressive and exciting to watch, but Donaire just wasn't big enough to deal with him there are featherweights who will beat Walters IMO

Crawford beat some top lightwieghts and is without question no1 in his division and likely to step up a weight or 2 in the coming years to get involved in some super fights.

Is 2014 a bit to late to throw Sergey Kovalevs name in the hat?

Crawford for me I told my best mate who is into boxing as well he will be the future p4p no1.

As well as being my fighter of the year. I had not heard of him until the Burns fight was announced.

Yes Ricky is a shadow of himself but Crawford handled the pressure with ease and for me has looked better in each of his following fights.

Unsure who he will end up fighting next year due to boxing politics. I think he outclasses Danny Garcia no problem but with Al Haymon being involved that won't happen.

No one I know ever thought Gamboa was the best boxer on the planet. Top 5 maybe, but that was about 2 years ago and before he took a whole year off between fights.

Did anyone even consider Gamboa a top 5 fighter in the Lightweight division?

Gamboa was good but I think he was far from his best at 135 and people typically overlook how competitive his fight with Darley Perez was. In fact, if the referee had not incorrectly credited Gamboa with a KD in the first and correctly credited Perez with a KD in the eleventh I think there is a good chance the bout would have been a draw.

Crawford had a very good year, but Gamoba was an undersized opponent for him, Gamboa best weight it would appear would be at 130. Like to see Mikey Garcia vs Gamboa at 130.
For me Break Out fighter of year is Kovalev with his victory over Hopkins propelling him to the elite level of the sport .

3 weight world champion, been a world champion since 2008.

I wasn't really following his progress too closely either.
But Davie and littlepug not knowing much about you're domination of the lower weights for the last 5 years doesn't make you a breakout fighter.

Kiss my ass all of yinz. The breakout fighter of the year is Sammy Vasquez Jr. The kid went 6-0 with 6KOs this year against decent opponents all of them had winning records. Who possibly did any better than Sammy???

Don't worry about it, I never knew who he was either until I started reading Datsue and BP on here.

I think Gonzalez arguably had a breakout year in western boxing circles, as I can't recall his name being mentioned more among fans and media from that region than it was this year. It seems to me like he's on significantly more radars than he was last year.

Nothing wrong with a little hometown love.
