Lee Murray Former mma fighter who was about to turn pro in boxing before going to jail. He was trained in the peacock gym and apparently dropped a prime danny Williams more than once and use to destroy Julian Francis.

Never read that before. I have read and heard that he was a feared street fighter with a big punch.

This.

A prime Williams would have been a very hard spar indeed.

Murray's reputation has reached almost mythical status incl his street altercation with Tito Ortiz (aka dress shoe-gate), surviving being stabbed multiple times whilst working the door, going the distance with Anderson Silva in CageRage, and of course the robbery for which he is most famous.

I do find it hard to believe he had the better of Williams in sparing, however.

I don't know about the Williams story, and things do get exaggerated but I spoke to a London double ABA champ and good pro who said that he had never seen anyone hit so hard as Murray. And Lee sparred Wayne Llewelyn who started taking liberties with him, despite the weight difference, so the next round Lee knocked him spark out.

James Zikic? I know he was a long time spar and gym mate of Murrays

I have seen interviews were james zikic compared Murray's power to david haye, Murray was a freak of nature 185 pounder who punched like a superheavyweight.

I appreciate that the clip below is only touch sparring but I struggle to reconcile the technique on display with the suggestion that Murray would have been capable of dropping a prime Danny Williams in sparring.

Anything is possible in a spar though I suppose...

Based on that I can't see them letting him in a ring with Danny Williams, let alone putting him on the floor.

On the cobbles though I would have fancied Murray against Ali, what he was doing to the heavy bag in the clip was scary, and he was a master of the dark art of street fighting.

He did yes. Think the fight got pulled off of YouTube for some reason. Maybe because it debunked a lot of myths about how amazing Murray was?

He comes over a total joke but the guys tough. A pal of mine trained down south in 2005 said Reid had a lot of respect as a hard case. I couldn't really believe it!! But the guys not easily impressed.

He's a hard bastard. Further proof about the old saying about judging a book by it's cover.

It got fashionable to scoff at Reid and dismiss him based on his tabloid profile, but alot of the people doing that were just parroting others or glancing at his record and interpreting it without any real understanding of context.

If people followed his career there can be no denying that Reid is as hard as fornicating nails. He displayed that most recently in his fight with Tom Watson back in late 2010, where he took an insane beating but kept coming.

In the first five or six years of his career Reid used to win a lot more than he lost. In later years he lost more than he won. He was always a real fighter though. Everyone he lost to (with the exception of Matt Ewin) fought in the UFC, and Ewin was a solid British fighter who was around Cage Rage and Bamma for years.

Edit: Reid lost to Ninja Rua. Ninja was never in the UFC but he was part of the Chute Box crew when they were one of the best fight teams in the world and he was a fixture in Pride.

I read he got 25 years - how does it work over there ?

Does 25 mean 10 like over here, or do you do the full sentence ?
