How many world title or big fights have been on Xmas day through the years?

Not quote Xmas but Porpramook vs Hernandez I was Dec 23rd, amazing fight.

Tommy Burns boxed Jack Johnson on 26th Dec 1908 for the heavyweight crown.

Can't think of any significant world title fights on Christmas Day itself (Rocky 4 notwithstanding) but I am sure it must have happened at some point!

Frankie Klick won the junior lightweight title witha 7th round knockout of Kid Chocolate on Christmas day 1933.
Philadelphia had a great history of Christmas day boxing shows, between 1900 and 1945 there was boxing on 42 Christmas days.

Great fact Ian - never knew about the link between Philly and Christmas Day boxing!

I think there's an annual Christmas day card in Belgium as well, that's still going strong.

The last well known fighter i remember was Bobby Czyz who fought on boxing day back in 1986,if anyone gets the chance,watch his first fight with Prince Charles Williams,absolute cracker.

Well after reading the segment i was refering to,i realise i was wrong on every level

The article was about xmas day fights not boxing day and Coopman never fought Ali on the 25th,it was just referring to Belgium and Coopman's affiliation with xmas day boxing

Christmas in Belgium is celebrated on the 24th i believe with dinner served around 5pm and presents are opened after the main meal. The 25th is described as the first day of Christmas and is still a time where families get together for a meal, but the main event happens on the evening of the 24th, making it more convenient to hold a card on the 25th. Still surprising, but i doubt a card in Belgium would ever be held on the 24th, just as in the UK i doubt we would never hold a card on the 25th.

I watched Pat Barrett fight in Belgium on Christmas Day. It's a tradition there as pointed out above.

Nice double here, Sugar Ray Robinson fought on Christmas day beating Hans Stretz, then had his next fight on Valentines Day against Jake LaMotta.

Jean Pierre Coopman fought on quite a few of those shows and is an unbeaten christmas day boxer, I think the last one he partook in was a 10 round points win over Neville Meade - good little result sent straight from Santa.

I was wrong - Coopman lost his last crimbo day fight in 1980 to
Pierre Babo Kabassu, but all in all - a very successful christmas day
boxer.

And Speedy Dado was born on Christmas day, he challenged 3 times for the world title. After he retired he drove for Mae West , and survived being shot and critically wounded in 1943 after a altercation in a cafe. He went on to live to 83years

Didn't he climb out of the window on his pro debut and never boxed again. I think he boxed in the Olympics for Iran.
