Is Guillermo Rigondeaux's fight with Hisashi Amagasa on New Year's Eve on British TV? As it's in Japan, it will be taking place in the early morning hours of New Year's Eve our time.

I dont think it is mate,not on any of the usual channels

I wonder how long it will take before he gets robbed. The sanctioning bodies can't be making much money off Rigondeaux and might try to get him beat if he has a close one.

For someone of his skills, it's remarkable that he didn't try to be more exciting in his fights. He had the ability to do it when he was being showcased in some fights but continues to fight with the amateur mentality and that's why he is fighting unknowns in Japan instead of headlining cards in Vegas.

I think he's great to watch.
But the public want KO's

He looked pretty exciting when he boxed Willie Casey; he's on a different level to most boxers and probably could chose to be more fan friendly.

Rigondeaux is a victim of his own brilliance, it's not his fault nobody wants to fight him but I do struggle to get my head around the fact someone of his talent is finding it that difficult to get a contract with any of the big American companies because apparently people find him "boring". Absolute nonsense in my opinion. I really hope 2015 is a better year for him and he gets the fights and recognition he deserves.

It's unbelievable, the biggest selling ppv star on the planet has KO'd 1 man in the last 7 years and that was with a sneaky cheapshot.

Yet this master craftsman, who has stopped 9 guys since 2009 is considered gunshy and no one wants to watch him.
In fact, no one even gets the opportunity to watch him.

I'm not outraged.

He's been pretty happy to play it safe a few times recently in fights he was miles in front.

The masses have spoke, it's up to Rigo and his matchmaker to make adjustments to sell themselves back to them.

It's not like he makes the press conferences fun , or makes outlandish comments to hype people up - all he has are his fists to excite people with - and as good as his skills are, you need personality and a spark sometimes too. Which the public hasn't managed to see much of.

It's not that hard to believe. Fans and peddlers love fighters who are killers like Tyson, warriors like Gatti, and charismatic shit-talkers like Floyd. Rignodeaux fills none of those slots. Without his smile and his mouth Mayweather would be a 'who wants him?' man too.

Also Pacquaio hasn't stopped anyone since Cotto in November 2009

Has there ever been any Cubans that have caught the imagination in the pros?

Cant be many if any,strange considering Cuba's the 1st country that springs to mind when talking of amateur boxing

I dont know how "big" Kid Gavilian was,i know he was a great fighter

Cuba has a few world champs just now,Rigondeaux,Hernandez and Barthelemy off the top off my head,Yoan Pablo's fights are usually exciting coz he can be hurt and still rally to win and ze Germans love him

Sugar Ramos had a huge following in Mexico.

Going right back, Kid Chocolate was probably the biggest ever Cuban star in the pros.

Those 3 shows from Japan on the 30th and 31st have some decent fights in there,although apart from Narvaez,Linares and Rigondeaux,i dont know much about whose fighting but 8 genuine title fights is impressive

having had a quick look at Rigos opponent, he looks like a basic stand up fighter. The reach difference is only 3 or 4 inches, which is strange considering the guy has about 6 inches of height on Rigo. japanese fighters are very tough so I can't see this guy doing a Willie Casey here but I'm pretty sure he'll get starched to the body at some point.

Im taking bad with the lack of boxing just now,only been off work since thursday and Stevenson-Sukhotsky was not even a fortnight ago and nothing on TV until second week of January

Keyhole TV shows a number of Japanese channels (pay the small fee for a month of premium or you'll feel like an epileptic) myniji is an alternative (though the developers seem to break it every time they update it). Most big fights also get streamed via justintv.

Cuban boxers were already pro or that escaped just after the revolution had a more exciting style, as they were already fighting as pro's and had that attacking style, the later Cuban boxers were usually top amateurs who managed to escape, but they already had that hit and not get hit style that suited them so well in the amateurs, but it doesn't lead to an exciting pro style.

Yeah the Inoue Narveaz Card looks good Murata is on that too he won gold in the last Olympics.

Promoters seems to splash the cash over there. Must have cost a lot to get Narveaz to travel over Christmas. Kiko Martinez went over earlier in the year too when it seemed he would fight Quigg or Frampton at that time.

The TV companies (all Free To Air for these shows) put a lot of money into the cards, around 10,000,000 will be expected to tune into the Dec 30th card on Fuji TV. The channel have exclusivity on Inoue and Murata (and essentially Yaegashi as well)
