This guy, Hector "Macho" Camacho, in talent alone, could have been the most complete and greatest fighter that Puerto Rico ever had. He had it all in his prime, but, like the great Wilfred Benitez, NEVER MAXIMIZED HIS POTENTIAL. If he would have take the sport seriously, he would have been an all-time great in my view, EASILY!

I believe that he is one of the best jr. lightweights ever. In what position? I do not know. But he is certainly one of the top 20 material at that weight class.

Where would I rank him at lightweight? He did not have a long stay at that weight to begin with. But his victory over tough Mexican and veteran champion Jose Luis Ramirez might be his greatest win or performance. There in that fight, he was as complete boxer as any fighter of the great 80s. Indeed, he was one of the 80s biggest boxing stars. He does not make the top 40 at lightweight in my view, that is for sure. There were many great lightweights that should be over him to begin with.

And if we talk his legacy at 140lbs, he is not even a top 50 ATG in that weight. No way.

After the Edwin "Chapo" Rosario fight, like he was not the same fighter. I really do not know why and what really happened to him after that. He had a promising career way ahead of him. He was only 24 when he started to decline. Maybe he was not hungry anymore. I don't know. But what a fighter he was. He is one of Puerto Rico's all time top 10 best boxers for sure.

Now in the top 100 greatest POUND PER POUND boxers ever, HE DOES NOT MAKE THE LIST IN NO SHAPE OR FORM. That is sad because I saw POTENTIAL in this fighter to be one of the greatest ever.

I think if you watch his fights when he was 130-135, you will see a huge difference to the fighter he later became. I don't really think it was the weight itself. He just didn't seem to set himself and put something into his punches, and wouldn't mix it up at all. For whatever reason he transformed into a different fighter. Early on, he was a flashy boxer, but he was aggressive and could punch. He was an incredible talent.

Even at the short period of time he had some very good wins. At lightweight alone, he beat Ramirez, Rosario and Boza-Edwards. That's better than the best wins of a lot of lightweight champions.

Later, he was a guy who would occasionally throw a nice combination, but was basically a runner.

I think Hector had the ability to do great things. But, being an 80's child, he got caught up in the lifestyle of that decade. Plus, he probably has to fine tune some things. A lot of the success he had was due to the speed he possessed. If Steward was telling the truth about Whitaker owning him in sparring, then he needed more in the arsenal. Plus, it wouldn't have hurt him to fight Mayweathet, Paul, Arguello, Crawley, Nelson, and Lonnie Smith.
