Something smells fishy about Stiverne vs Wilder

I listen to an excellent interview by Bayloric.
Anybody wonder why there has been no promotion or press tour about this fight. Alhaymon doesnt not want stiverne name promoted. The fight is built as Wilder winning the WBC belt for USA. On all the TV commercials its WILDER.
Roc nation were winning the purse bids and naturally stiverns team wanted it but Goldenboy/Alhaymon would have got him stripped. Its sad how they wanted the WBC belt for free so badly.
I really hope this doesn't go to the judges.
The only good thing is that shoudl Wilder win, his options will a Voluntary, Mandatory vs Povetkin, Or Unification vs Wladimir
He will certainly take a voluntary. Lets hope the russians win purse bid should Povetkin get his shot.

Stiverne seems too proud to take a dive, but anything is possible when we're dealing with shady characters like Don King and Al Haymon.
I think it will likely be a legit KO win for Deontay, because of his youth, his height and reach advantage, and because of his punching power.
But Stiverne is definitely a live underdog because of his quick, powerful counter-punches.

It's a massive fight in the Heavyweight division, everyone's going to be watching.

I don't think you got anything to worry about here. They got 58 fights between them & 54 have been KO's.

I know everyone is picking wilder. But how often have we see hype job heavyweight ko artists get brutally exposed. Can the man take a good punch? It will be interesting but remember these guys are still just contenders to klitschkos throne.

Well Bermane has some solid wins no question, but he also gots a stoppage loss & draw to journeymen so a hype job might still be able to get the job done lol. Whatever happens in this fight I suspect it'll be interesting & fun & I'm just looking forward to this one.

Bermane def has chance. Wilder has great.power but is more raw IMHO. We'll see how legit each guy is. I think Wilder gets hurt in this bout but finishes it in style

And why would Al Hamon want to promote a fighter that he is not "advising"?
cold187 wrote:The fight is built as Wilder winning the WBC belt for USA. On all the TV commercials its WILDER.
So let me think about this... an American TV network (Showtime) are broadcasting a world heavyweight title fight involving an American (Deontay Wilder), which is being staged in a Stadium in America (Las Vegas)... and January 17th could end a seven and a half year drought since the last time an American held the title (Shannon Briggs - June 2007).
The event is being co-promoted by two American promoters (Don King & Golden Boy).
The title fight involves a hyped-up undefeated American title challenger that has knocked out all 32 of his opponents and his bouts have never lasted more than four rounds.
... And you're seriously telling me that you are surprised that the American promotional videos created by an American TV network have a natural bias towards the unbeaten American knockout specialist for a fight being staged in America and promoted by American promotional companies?
cold187 wrote:Roc nation were winning the purse bids
The fight never went to purse bids, so it's pointless to mention this.
And why would Don King or Golden Boy want to lose the co-promotional rights for the Wilder-Stiverne title fight to Roc Nation, who would exclude them both from being involved in the promotion of this event?
thank you.

stiverne reminds me of chris byrd, who always
seemed misplaced in the top five of the HW division.
stiverne won the title in his mid thirties against arreola.
this will be over quickly, maybe wilder will have a
little more respect than usually and stiverne sees
the ring girl holding no5.
i see this scenario. wilder TKO5. then he is headlines
ALL OVER america and in a year he challenges that
ukrainian. bad thing for the marketing people is that
they cannot portray wlad as the bad russian, and
deontay doesn't resemble sylvester stallone in every
physical detail. but there will be ways to quote rocky,
i guess. plus it will have racial undertones, not officially,
but still.
all in all, this fight would be spectacular and the greatest
thing since vitali-lennox. promotion wise as big as ali-frazier.
the fight itself i do not know. wilder-stiverne will show
more how good he is. if he is taking him out with ease
the wlad fight could be truly exciting. wlad has way more
experience ... well, yes, i guess i'm getting ahead of myself.

stiverne's record is not really better than wilder's,
except for the belt. he did not achieve an awful lot
and he is 36. this doesn't last long. i actually could
imagine this will be one the most one sided wins
of the WBC belt in history.

It really is a great point made here by the Poster. There is hardly any promotion of this fight. I can't understand this. There was more publicity over the Danny Garcia/Salka fight. This should be way bigger than it is. We could have an American Heavyweight Champion! How is that not important to the sport.
With that said, i think that this fight is going to be a snorefest. Smart money is on Wilder but Stiverne has one punch power as well. There's a huge reach disadvantage for Stiverne though and in order to get inside, his chin better be tucked or it's lights out.

Um, let's see; Wilder is 32(32)-0-0 and Stiverne has a draw with Charles Davis.

Is it possible Al Haymon is very desperate to buy the WBC belt from Stiverne with a bonus to dive, so he can have another fraud star to sell besides Floyd? YES
Is it possible Stiverne will take the bonus because he's impossible to sell or promote, as an aging Haitian born Canadian with zero charisma and name recognition outside of hardcore boxing fans? YES
Is it possible Al Haymon will manipulate this fight like Malignaggi told us: "Al Haymon can manipulate anything what Al Haymon wants Al Haymon gets." YES
Is it possible Stiverne will take the $5 million bonus like Canelo did to go soft on Floyd? YES
Welcome to the Al Haymon Boxing Reality Show which as Floyd Mayweather told us about All Access is fake and staged.

It’s nice to know that we have some highly intelligent and mature forum members that like to carefully consider the posts that they submit.
That being said, it does surprise me to read the thoughts from the very same people discussing the gynaecological disorders that causes their female family members to emit foul odours from their lady parts!

Lets be honest, he wouldn't really be the Heavyweight champion, everyone knows Wlad is the champ.
And no, having an American Heavyweight champion isn't important.

We need to have a separate Gynecology/Venereology forum.

We have seen this script before. Hyped bronze medal winner in a weak draw ( won second match 10-10 ) turns pro fighting trail horses and journeyman and somehow vaults his way into a title fight without beating a top 40 level opponent! Can you say manufactured and marketed? I know USA boxing is at a low tide, but I smell bottom shelf can of tuna here.
News flash to those keeping score. Wilder was down and rocked by limited opposition in the pro's and Ko'd in short amateur career. His stamina, and defense are untested in the pro's. His chin has already been tested, and we know.
Stivererne for his part can box and punch. His defense is solid enough. Don't be surprised if this one end early with Wilder out. So says boxing history.

I have many questions about Wilder and suspect that he won't enjoy a long reign as a major title holder should he win. That said, I don't think Stiverne will be the man to 'expose' him. For all the talk of Wilder's limited opposition Stiverne has almost entirely fought mediocre opponents, losing to one and drawing with another, and his reputation is built largely off his wins over Arreola, whose style and attributes are very different from Wilder's. Stiverne also struggled significantly with the range of Austin, who is the only decent tall opponent he's faced in my view, and I think he's going to get caught waiting at the end of a long right hand, hurt, and taken out before he does much of note.
I'm not picking Wilder because I think he's particularly good, but I don't feel that Stiverne is the man to beat him.

It sure does tell you something about this era of boxing when an American heavyweight gets a title shot and has an impressive career record of 32-0-0 with 32 KO's, and he has barely been on any national televised fight cards for America to view. If Wilder had been fighting in the 70's, 80's or 90's, he would have amassed at least a dozen TV spots before he ever got to 30-0-0 with 30 KO's. I know most of you will say, "Yeah, but he hasn't really fought anybody of worth." Yes, but in the decades before, even if some up-and-comer had earned a record of 15-0-0 with 15 KO's, TV networks would be working hard to get him some exposure on their networks, even if he was only beating up below average competition. I mean, come on, everyone was abuzz when Mike Tyson got to 10-0-0. Same with Riddick Bowe, Ray Mercer, Tommy Morrison, etc... Heck, even a Jeremy Williams and Danell Nicholson!
Now-a-days, a heavyweight can get a title shot and hardly anyone knows who he is, outside the fight fanatics. That is nuts!! Mainstream boxing has dropped off the face of the planet, at least here in the USA.
