Look on his facebook/twitter - injury
Said he's got a stress fracture on his lower back - no idea if the bill will go ahead, as the undercard is solid. Fast car must be face palming at the moment.

I am no doctor, but that doesn't sound good for his long term career.
Does that mean it si more wear and tear or cumulative effect rather than one single event that has caused the problem (eg. does he do a lot of weights ?) - and as somebody who has suffered with a bad back, once you have got one then you have got a glass back for life.

something was always fishy about this fight as boxrec had it listed for the Newcastle card in april for about two weeks
I think AJ is great but this is his 4th withdrawal
he is becoming a sick note like david haye

BBC are reporting that it's a pars stress fracture, common in young athletes.

Caused by stress over a prolonged period of time, it's not a clean break, more of a crack in the bone that's opened up. It shouldn't be a long term absence, but it might be a problem down the line. They're usually caused by weight bearing activities, I doubt it will have come from lifting weights unless he's been lifting huge weights. A lot of ways of preventing it from happening again involve strengthening the muscle around the bone, but when you look at him, he really can't afford to build any more muscle around his back and shoulders. It can be a sign of over training too.

sgtress fracture very rare in the back
commoner in toes foot , maybe ankle and hands
but back, thats more common in little old ladys with osteoporosis. they can get low impact fractures, crush fractures and osteoprotic fractures due to brittle bones
AJ should have strong bones
Steroids do increase risk of osteoporosis

Interesting. I actually thought it was a somewhat risky fight. I bet he doesn't reschedule it.

Not sure how trustworthy the AAPMR is but....they seem to say this particular injury is common in younger athletes...

To get a stress fracture in the back is quite rare for performance athletes. He will need to be careful and take his time coming back.
stress fractures and stress responses are usually overload injuries. Meaning that he is probably overtraining

Joshua's 25 though, he's a fully grown man. If he was younger and his body was still developing it could be put down to issues surrounding growth, but at his age, I can't really see it being down to that.

Conspiracy theorist in me says that ala Haye the old hard to disprove/prove back injury comes out when perhaps things weren't going to plan in camp? Sure he was posting holiday snaps from Cuba just before Christmas. Add into the mix that Johnson has been in a long camp makes you wonder whether there was a little bit of worry creeping in.

Kell Brook got absolutely slaughtered on here for injuring his foot.

From what I could see the bill is still going ahead. Will be a lot of people returning tickets though I imagine. I will still be going but I know the mates I am going with are nowhere near as keen now.

My mates don't want to go now.

Could be - or it could also be that they are no more/less injured than other boxers, it is just that they are in a more favourable position and able to pull out of fights without fear of "retribution".
Other lower profile boxers would effectively be forced to fight when not fully fit.

I can't remember which fight it was, maybe the UC fight to Froch/Groves II, but they made a point of saying Joshua had added almost as stone of "muscle". He certainly looked bigger, the recorded weights bore it out too.

14lbs of muscle is a very 'suspicious' amount to put on in under 3 months. I'm guessing it was when he fought Dorian Darch (went from 229 -> 241.5). More than likely it was a combination of water, fat and muscle that could account for a 12lb weight shift on a big frame. However, if it was 12lbs of pure muscle then mass wise, it's the equivalent of adding 24 8oz steaks to your body that consist of pure muscle. It's not physically possible (without PEDs).
