Resignation

I have today resigned as a Referee/Judge with the British Boxing Board of Control, a position I have held for tha past 31 years.
I am moving on to pastures new, being the Ring Officials co-ordinator for an exciting new format of combat sports.
I have enjoyed the comments on here about me over the years, both the good and the bad.
May I wish you all a happy new year.

Good luck Richie,I always thought you were one of the better ref`s in this country. I thought you did a great job for the first Clev-Bellew fight and you were the ref for the first live main event I saw which was Haye-Barrett which was one lively fight.

Yes, good luck :TU: could I ask for you which was your favourite bout you reffed and which bout you scored gave you the biggest headache afterwards?

Great fight I refereed was Carl Thompson/Sebastian Rothman, along with many others. Headaches? Hand on heart, none. Every fight I worked, I did it honestly. People disagreed with me on occasions. I understand that. It's just a matter of an opinion. Refereeing is an art, judging an opinion.

What a shame.

One of our best refs sadly frozen out of the really big occasions over the last few years.

Really respected you throwing barney out after a non display. Not many have the bottle to do it anymore.

The biggest praise I can give Richie is that I've seen him countless times but can't really remember what fights which goes to show he didn't drop any major clangers or is remebered for the wrong reasons

My main memory of Richie is the telling off he gave Bellew in the first Cleverly fight that you mentioned, thought it was a great bit of refereeing, got a grip on things from the start and didn't give it any chance to spiral out of control.

Best of luck in the future Richie.

I remember people slating Richie for the way he spoke to Bellew so early in the fight but I'm sure Tony will admit that bollocking was for his own sake more than anyone else's
