Fury v Hammer Thoughts

What do people think of this match-up? It looks okay to me, Hammer is obviously another relatively short opponent and isn't a high level banger but for a marking time fight it'll do. Agree?

I think it's a gift for fury. Hammer would be a gift for most decent heavyweights, I'd take price and Joshua to stop him. He lost to bidenko, and wach stopped him. Very clever match making and ultimately an easy nights work for Tyson.

It's going to be a complete an utter wipe out, with a few wobbles along the way.

Surely sarcasm?

Since when did a WBO ranking mean credibility? Hammer is awful.

Fury wins comfortably, but Hammer wont roll over having not lost in 4 years.

Fury has had 3 of his last 4 fights cancelled or postponed and needs to get out regularly before he fights for a world title. Fighting guys like this is perfect for what he needs, rounds against credible and ranked opponents.

This fight is fine.

Tyson is WBO mandatory and has been very in active over the past couple of years.

I think Hammer is tailor-made for Fury, but I don't have a problem with it considering that Fury is Wlad's mandatory and could've just sat on a title shot.

Airich took Hammer the distance, just about says it all regarding how dangerous he is for Fury.

Weakest 'decent' option available I reckon. Keeps Tyson busy though so better than not fighting at all

Dont rate hammer in the slightest. Fury will toy with him then take him out any time he likes.

I wouldn't be so hard on Hammer, I'd rate him as, having a bit of something....

A Fury win though but another fight I wouldn't back against going the distance.

Christian Hammer is USA Network journeyman heavyweight cannon fodder in the 1990s.

Given Tyson Fury is a devout man of god...

..this opponent has a great name if he wins.

But you will have more chance of hell freezing over.

Now you mention it, his name does make you think that he'll administer the wrath of God, doesn't it?

Great name.....not so great fight. I guess it serves a purpose in keeping Fury active and Hammer isn't terrible, but it doesn't exactly help in preparation for Klitschko or Wilder....in fairness though finding an opp to perform that role is pretty difficult. Would prefer to see Fury fighting guys with more height in prep though.

Hammer is currently ranked 11th in the world, with that ranking you'd have to rate him as a top contender.

Still fancy a Fury victory.

Decent enough marking time fight IMO. Fury just need activity after all the BS he's been through. I think we'll see the best of him if he remains active. I'd like to see him at least 15lbs lighter than the Chisora fight.

Hammer will at least turn up and Tyson will bank some rounds and get some much needed-activity.....but with Wilder potentially around the next corner I'd much prefer Tyson to be facing another genuinely tall lad rather than a relatively short, chunky East European warhorse. If some target practice is in order then pick a rangy, tall lad with a bit of reach to negotiate and get used to punching straight rather than down? But Peter F knows his business and Tyson spars with his tall cousins....so perhaps not such a big deal and Hammer will give it a whirl without being dangerous.

No interest for me but as has been said he needs activity. Just going through another training camp will be more significant than the fight. He has seemed to improve in the past in between fights despite crap opponents so it's positive for his career and bank account.

I won't help fund it however.

I expect this to go the same way as Fury's second fight with Chisora. The top tall heavyweights all seemed to have figured out how to beat dangerous shorter opponents, and Fury is better at keeping those kind of boxers at bay than most.

Hamer gave it a good go against the huge Wach before getting nailed.

I'm looking forward to this fight, should be entertaining, and great to see Fury getting the momentum back.

Why is Fury not defending his EBU title against Hamer?

Fury won't be in the best shape and will not respect Hammer's power and accordingly may well make another of his early rounds canvas visits before forcing a possibly early ref stoppage in 5.
