How I feel right now............

I'm like (I've always wanted to say that in an actual conversation, 'I'm like......', I know it's synonymous with air headed teenage girls with chronic rising inflection syndrome, but I'm ashamed to say it feels good on my auditory canals).

Anyway, I'm like, fukc you if your name ain't Humberto 'Chiquita' Gonzalez.

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Vk4c-84Cev0

Just watched this, my first exposure to HCG 24 years ago. How do you not fall in love with this little guy? 107lbs and 5'1" of pure KO dynamite. And not a syringe in sight.

This fight was only going to end one way, and every move, every feint, every twitch of muscle, every calculated decision to neglect D-fence and take a punch to get an inch closer just brought the inevitable that much closer. Pure nostalgia.

Thank you Humberto, thank you youtube and thank you Clara Hills Sauvignon Blanc (£4:75 at asda, absolute bargain) for a truly uplifting morning after 12 hours of night shift hell.

Who needs religion when we got cheap wine and Chiquita?

You are a gentleman of taste & distinction. I still love to watch him make Carbajal look stupid in their second fight, blood pissing down his face. What a warrior. What a dude. What a fvcking boxer.

Think your right, I was always one of the smallest at school and loved sport but always struggled alongside the bigger lads, when I came across boxing and saw little guys like Lopez, Carbajal, McCauley and hoko it blew my mind that a sport existed that catered for every size, the little guys are still my heroes :bag:

I'm six foot on the dot & nearly got mishandled by Ricardo Lopez's heavies (or more accurately, the security of the TV channel he was commentating for) after they mistook my puppyish enthusiasm & effervescent brio for an attempt on his life.

This was one of my proudest moments. I am a sad man, but a sad man with a Finito Man-Crush.

Here I am again, another crappy night shift done and dusted, and I will share my treat with you guys again.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s3UNgXaO3Qo

(Well, that's half the treat, the other half is 70cl's of Anciano Tempranillo which I can't, and wouldn't share anyway. But I would recommend you buy yourself a bottle, I'm really impressed with the quality of wine you can buy in an asda for under a fiver. Apologies to those in the states.)

Another nostalgic look back to my first look at another Mexican favourite, Daniel Zaragoza, the beautiful gargoyle of a man who never disappointed.

I'm not going to say anything about this fight, it speaks for itself. I defy anyone not to be totally absorbed by this from beginning to end.
A really interesting match with a grudge angle, the scene set perfectly by Chick Hearn( ) with no hyperbole and no hysteria.

A word about Chick Hearn. I only just learned that he is a towering legend of basketball coverage, his wiki page has a list a foot long of popular phrases that he invented. He coined the term 'slam dunk' ffs.

Is this guy in the boxing hall of fame? He should be. How many commentators can claim to belong in the HOF in two sports?

His passion for the sport, and his pure enjoyment of the action come across really well and he really does add to the experience, rather than detract from it.

It's a tragedy that people exist today, people who enjoy much more power than their intellect and motivation could possibly merit, who would watch this fine video and decide :

'Hey, this could really be improved by teaming Chick up with a waffling northerner who was barely a world champion or a senile scot who is way past it. While we're at it, let's put drunken tweets sent by Ricky Hatton from his local boozer on the screen. And for good measure, have these two guys stand themselves in front of fireworks for 5 minutes while we play some meaningless bullshit on the big screen before they walk to the ring'.

What a career Zaragosa Had. Turned pro in 1980 and still took Eric Morales 11 rounds in 1997. I think beat our own Ray Gilbody in the 80 Olympics.

Mind you he did take some punishment in is career-fought a lot of good men, so I would be surprised if he doesnt carry some of that around with him now.

Here's a link to his Wikipedia page with a picture.

I don't know how recent this is, but he looks in good shape. Good for him.
