Did Heymon screw Quillin?

Quillin turned down a $1.4m payday against a very beatable Korobov, only to sit on the shelf for almost a year and then get matched up against Andy Lee for significantly less money. Surely this was due to Heymon's management, correct? Seems like this was good for Heymon's plans to start pitching big cards to TV networks, but maybe not so good for Quillin's career.

Don't seem great money-wise if this is true. I suppose there is an argument to make for being paid less but building up the number of people who know who the f#ck you are though too. How much less you are getting paid vs the gamble that you gain fans & can get even more money in the future is a valid question.

Without knowing Al's complete blueprint it might be hard to say tbh. If he can parlay these free fights into PPV fights or some sort of WWE Network or UFC Fight Pass kinda deal maybe it pays off for the fighters too. Al is the Keysor Soze of boxing so details will not be forthcoming either. I gotta figure there is a longer game being played here.

To the idiots talking shit about Haymon/Quillin ...

Now, I would have liked to see Quillin/Korobov, and my opinions about all this money business tends to land me above all these stupid discussions.

BUT ...

When Floyd offers Manny a career high payday and then Arum completely wrecks it, why isn't that front page boxing news? Like the months of "Haymon screws Quillin" we heard from every boxing outlet.

Shit, regardless of the purse sizes, Manny probably has more debt than Quillin.

Wait around a year to get paid about half what he'd get against the guy Lee defeated......doesn't seem like that's in Quillin's best interests though I doubt that I'm privy to all the relevant info.

How is that the same situation? Most people would be of the opinion Pacqiuao's cut is worth more than the 40 million Mayweather was offering, career high payday or not, on the other hand 1.4 million for Quillan to fight Korobov seems really excessive, very strange he walked away from that.

Maybe they just overestimated Korobov and didn't want to lose the zero ?

I think the whole weird thing with RocNation winning the Peter purse bid & making offers to 5 or so of Al's guys is more whats going on here. Sh!t it looks like Jay Z is trolling Al tbqh. This is a RocNation thing more than a ducking or money or whatever else thing.

i can respect a world champion dropping his belt to fight bigger and meaningful fights.

tarver johnson did it back in the day
lennox lewis did it (didnt wanna fight ruiz)

but the manner quillin did, was disgraceful esp if he fighting for the same belt which he left for "bigger and better" opportunities.

Former WBO middleweight champion Peter Quillin (31-0, 22 KOs) has a chance of regaining his WBO middleweight title against the current WBO champ Andy Lee (34-2, 24 KOs) in a fight that is being proposed for April 11th on NBC.

The Quillin-Lee fight is still in the planning stage and not a done yet, but it’s a definite possibility for the co-feature on the Danny Garcia vs. Lamont Peterson card.

A victory for ‘Kid Chocolate’ could give Al Haymon two middleweight champions in his stable, assuming the WBO allows Andy Lee to keep hold of his belt as long as Billy Joe Saunders is paid to step aside (much akin to the Danny Garica-Viktor Postol situation). :o

According to Dan Rafael, the fight purses on PBC are really high compared to what fighters typically receive on HBO & Showtime, such as Robert Guerrero receiving $2.5m to face Keith Thurman.

Therefore, I’m expecting Peter Quillin’s purse for his proposed bout with Andy Lee, assuming it comes to fruition, to dwarf the $1.4m that Roc Nation Sports offered him to face Matt Korobov! :o
Give me a link where I can see officially that Guerrero will earn 2,5 M

Weren't they talking about just paying Billy Joe some step aside money & giving him a shot at the winner? That would seem like the move to make for all parties. As a fighter getting some $$$ to not fight a guy until a few more months down the line sounds beautiful. You still get the fight, you get paid for the fight, probably better than he was gonna make with this PBC thing now & you get money for not doing sh!t in the time being.

I didn't see an actual purse figure for Quillin anywhere in your posts, just a bunch of speculation based on what Robert Guerrero is making.

It sounds like Fat Dan knows the purses & if Dan is saying they seem higher than one would get for HBO & Showtime it'll be better than the $1.4M. Dan gots a chat today. Can probably just straight up ask him & get an answer if its better than $750 or $1.4M.

I didn’t provide one because the fight hasn’t been signed-up yet.

I’m not a clairvoyant, because any figures quoted prior to contract negotiations taking place would be pure speculation… and that’s something I won’t do!

In terms of Robert Guerrero’s fight purse, well I’m simply quoting information supplied by a normally reliable source. If you don’t believe the figures quoted, then that’s fine by me...
I actually wasn't casting doubt on the Guerrero purse number, I was just pointing out that it doesn't say much about what Quillin will be paid.

It's completely possible that Quillin was somehow compensated and is just fine. But outwardly it seems like dubious management to turn down a huge purse, vacate a title, and sit on the shelf for a year, only to fight for the same title as the challenger for a smaller purse.

If Heymon did screw Quillin it's ok. They're both grown men. It's 2015 you guys need to get over this type of thing.

Lee might fight Quillin, but it won't be for the title and without the belt on the line, I can't see him getting $1 million for the fight.

Saunders didn't seem too keen on the idea of Quillin jumping the queue and getting a shot before him. https://twitter.com/bjsaunders_/status/ ... 2211438593

In all seriousness, Saunders as mandatory is a joke, he's beaten nobody and anyone in their right mind would rather see Qullin/Lee.
