Is Golovkin/Cotto actually possible now?

With Cotto/Canelo falling apart, is this fight being discussed? Or is still basically a non-starter on Cotto's end? This fight could do huge business in NYC on the weekend of PR Day in June.

I doubt it. I don't think Miguel makes a move til Floyd decides on something cuz thats still his best option.
If I'm Miguel's advisor I'm telling him to wait on Saul later in the year cuz I think he's got a better chance vs Saul than GGG. I mean for Miguel its kinda a game of keeping your best options alive right now.
You don't wanna go lose to Saul or GGG if Floyd is a viable option. You don't wanna go losing to GGG if Saul is a viable option. And you don't wanna go losing to some promising up & coming contender when GGG is a viable option. I think all the big fights for Miguel lead to a L so he probably just wants to sit on his belt for a lil while or take a bs kinda fight. The lowest level big fight I think he should be taking right now is Saul so if Saul isn't happening & Floyd doesn't come calling he should bypass GGG.
The ideal situation for Miguel would be he loses to Floyd in May, he loses to Saul later in the year & than he loses to GGG in 2016. All big fights for him, all fights the A side would still want despite the previous loss(es).

you think he can win some?
i mean, i also would favour them 3 over cotto, but cotto looked tremendous against sergio, if he comes well prepared and technicly prepared he can have a shot at them.

Then he needs to vacate the title and GTFO. Let people muscular enough fight for it.

I think it is better to loose to GGG it wont come as a surprise then to Canelo in which case his carrier is over. I am not sure Cotto want to fight nobodies. So if Floyd rematch is not on the cards I think he might be happy to take on GGG.

Cotto is lineal mw champ, why should Ggg meet him at 154? And as always you're wrong about no indication. Pretty sure you've seen this Iole article, just forgot?

"There was ample evidence presented just last week that proves Golovkin could make it. On the Monday before the fight, he weighed 161 pounds, just one over the middleweight limit and only seven away from the super welterweight limit."

Cotto will never fight Golovkin. Neither will he fight any healthy second tier middleweight.

I don't think Miguel wants to fight nobodies either, but I think thats the road he's on if Floyd or Saul aren't his next opponent. Hell I'm sure he thinks he can beat Floyd, Saul & GGG too, but he seems like a cat who thinks in dollars & cents & not just with his fists. He could probably fight a David Lemieux next where its not a big name, but a name that'll get eyes on him. I'll be surprised if he fights GGG when a fight with Saul is still looming.

That'd be a really dangerous fight. Not saying Lemieux is the next big thing, but he hits like a truck and Cotto is past it...he's already taken a lot of damage.

Eh, I think I'd favor him over David, but mainly I was just saying there are some fights that'll keep attention on him without as much threat to lose as the big fights to keep him in the running for those big fights. He could rematch Sergio if Sergio is available & wanting to fight. Sergio Mora is probably wanting to fight for a title after this Jermain sh!t blew up on him. I'd favor him in those fights too. That there are options that are okay was mainly my point though without getting too much into who Miguel can or can't beat of lower level guys.

Gotcha
I'd favor him in each of those fights as well, I was just saying Lemieux could potentially cause him a lot of unnecessary damage.

If Cotto doesn't fight GGG at 160, or anyone else in the division at 160, he should be stripped of his belt. It just blows me away that a champion at a weight class would even mention a catch-weight. Even 159 when Cotto fought Martinez was stupid. Roach has a lot to do with that, as he has done with several Pacquiao fights.

I have no doubts that Lemieux would stop Cotto which is why that fight will never happen.

As much as I like Cotto, I'd hope to see Lemieux win. He'd be a fun champion while he lasted.

yeah Lemieux is on a tear right now and his power is for real, that's Cotto's last option when he has so much more $ on the table elsewhere. I'd say Cotto had a good shot at Canelo but that's gone, Lee/BJS winner would be nice, he has no shot at Golovkin, a Mayweather rematch he'll get outhustled again, Maravilla is shot, Mora might be a choice.. I'm glad Cotto is rejuvenated and looking sharp again, he's a great fighter to watch.

If Cotto had a good shot at Canelo, then he wouldn't have played a diva for so long. Even Mora would be tough to beat for him.
