Slugfest is right! Whew! Coetzer was later KO'd by Bowe, Bruno, and Foreman, all of whom outweighed him by 30 to over 40 pounds.

Great fight while it lasted!

One of Coetzers main problems through his career was cuts.

He got a bad cut right after the fight started!

man,Pierre Coetzer had one of the coolest looking"Viking" mustaches on a fighter ever.
He looked like he stepped out from the year 1905,looking almost like a veteran of the Boer Wars or something.

Coetzer had three particularly savage fights with Bowe, Foreman and Bruno. He accounted himself reasonably well in each in my opinion. The Bruno fight was terrible in that Frank was very very naughty in his illegal tactics. I dont want to knock Frank , he is a British Institution, but he was a bit naughty when it came to the illegal stuff. I felt sorry for Pierre on this one.

I wonder how much better Du Plooy and Coetzer may have been in their boxing careers if they had been on "The Juice"?

@evrenrb...agreed about Frank that night, he did have a nasty/mean side and sometimes needed to be shown a stronger hand by the third man, especially when fighting in London. Possibly lucky not to get docked a point or two against Pierre.

I always thought that Pierre's aggressive/high tempo style was great value for money - there was absoutely no messing with him - but to really make it work against powerful, big guys like Bruno and Bowe I think he needed an extra 6-7 kg. A bustling, physical style like that needed just a bit more weight in the era in which Pierre was fighting.

Bruno and Bowe had to work against him and took some shots...but Pierre not big enough to shove them back and keep them there. Be interesting to see what Bruno weighed that night compared to Pierre, but can remember that he looked the way bigger guy and was able to shove him around (legally and not so legally) fairly easily.

Bruno outweighed him by about 30 pounds. Bruno was 244, PC was probably his usual 215 or 216. Bowe outweighed him by exactly 30 pounds. Foreman outweighed him by 42 pounds.

None of those South African heavies appear to have touched the stuff. They all have normal physiques.
