Matthysse vs Provodnikov?

I read that this fight may indeed happen in late March? If so, a great one to watch! I would pick Matthysse by late stoppage, but an all out war up to that point.

That would be an X rated war, Lucas has a very hard punch and Provodnikov just doesn't know how to retreat, brilliant bout.

Love the fight

Wish they'd save for a PPV as this one has action written all over for it

I think the most reliable backup plan for Pac now is Vargas with Khan being a more intirguing option. Provo should not get the Pac fight unless he beats Matthysse or somebody of that level.

does he have a contract with any promoter, now?
if he has another promoter, i doubt golden boy would still be listing him on their site

you have that backwards. it's hbo's ken hershman and others who first publicly said they
wouldn't be answering calls from haymon, and nobody even knew how haymon got their
numbers in the first place. he just started calling direct numbers that nobody ever gave him.
fergusg wrote: Google is a really useful tool...
let me help you. haymon is a manager. he doesn't have a promoters license.
any card that khan appears on must have a promoter to legally stage the event.
golden boy and top rank are the two biggest promoters in the usa, and really the world.
fergusg wrote: he’s an Al Haymon fighter that is no longer affiliated to Golden Boy Promotions.
Therefore, I honestly don’t know how he would ever be able to face the Filipino legend
your own link says that as a free agent khan will continue to negotiate with golden boy, so
there is no point to you mentioning him no longer being affiliated with golden boy, because
everything available to him through golden boy is still there the same as before. it has
no effect on his fights. the expired contract just means he has more options to fight other
stables. it's why i asked you why you were mentioning the promoter thing as if his expired
contract was now somehow a barrier to making fights. if haymon is somehow a barrier to
khan fighting on golden boy promoted cards, as haymon is already persona non grata at hbo,
then he is useless to khan and the managerial contract voidable, unless there is another
licensed promoter staging the biggest events in the usa. khan can fight who he wants.

If this is a toe to toe brawl then I'm going with Provo but if LM uses what I believe him to have which is the overall better boxing skills then I think he should win it by UD.

The only way there's a KO in this bout is if they go toe to toe and that favors Ruslan.

Matthysse is just better all around.

I see him stopping Provodnikov late in the fight.

"We are taught to believe fights like these are good for boxing, but it's one of my biggest gripes with the sport. People aren't slugging it out on the streets like this potential slugfest because they actually care about having a proper brain function. Matthysse should've stayed with Haymon to keep this fight from ever happening in US society. You know I won't be watching... I'll just watch reruns of defensive masterpieces, where fighters still get hit, just not quite as often." - BAD INTENTIONS :-?

I agree. Provo could very well finish on his feet and be stopped by TKO from the ref. He may have a knockdown or two himself in the process. Hopefully if Lucas wins, we can see a rematch between him and D. Garcia.

Lucas is the better boxer so I expect him to win but I just wonder about his punch resistance. Id favor ruslan early, but if the fight goes into the later rounds lucas may use his boxing ability to get the win

While I agree that Matthysse is more skilled than Ruslan I think he probably gets drawn into a slugfest as he did with another largely skill-less opponent in Molina, and I believe Ruslan's impressive durability makes more of a difference in that type of fight than Lucas's extra skill would.

I really hope this fight happens :bag:

Lucas legs were a bit shaky against Molina, think one of those knockdowns was questionable but his balance didn't look right until he got going in the mid rounds.. Provo starts quick then just hunts, but he doesn't attack the body like Lucas will. Got to lean towards Matthyse lil more dynamic and hits just as hard

I think Matthysse actually hits harder than Provo. Provo couldn't hurt Algieri much but did make his eye close. (although I admit not watching the fight) I would guess Matthysse would stop Algieri. It seems like Matthysse has knocked down most of the guys he has fought. Matthysse is more skilled too, and why I think Provo's face will tell the story when it is done.

Provo couldn't hurt Algieri, because he couldn't catch him. Matthysse does not have Algieri's height and reach advantage, so he will need to move really well (like Bradley did half of the rounds). If Lukas decides to stand and fight Ruslan, this may not end well for him.

lol. al haymon is not deciding for any of his fighters that they aren't fighting pac.
any of his fighters would leave him in a heartbeat for a pac fight. get real.
the guy signed his first fighter less than 15 years ago and this bridge burning
stuff is all in the last 5 or so. there ISN'T any history to by, one way or the other,
to predict what his top fighters will be doing this year. if they aren't going to be
fighting any of the fighters of the top promoters and not on hbo, then you tell me
where they will be fighting? mayweather cards?

i see matthysse stopping provo in the middle rounds

These are the sort of fights we want, this could be an all time classic.

I would side with Lucas, but it could be close.

If you only watch one fight in 2015, make sure it's Matthysse vs. Provodnikov.
Fight of the Decade potential.

Argentine promoter said this fight hasn't been signed and negotiations are continuing.
The March 28 date appears out the window now and it's questionable whether it will take place in SoCal if it takes place at all.

Yeah I read about that, shame if it falls through.
