I think it is the correct decision. He has not been at his best for a while, and is unlikely to do so. He has been a fine world champion who only lost to the very best; when he himself was already past his best he still managed to beat Froch, which tells you how good he once was.

Always comes over as a very pleasant, straightforward bloke.Here's to a good retirement!

Yeah, I would agree with the above sentiments. Kessler was a great fighter, though I do think that he is underrated these days. Hopefully in the future, history will look back and recognise him as the top, top fighter that he was.

The thing I like about him is that not only was/is he a warrior...he just seems like a totally nice bloke.

its how i'd like to think I would have been in the world of boxing.....warrior in the ring, gentleman out of it.

Great boxer and an impressive man. I'd still take him over Abraham, DeGale and Groves.

He was unlucky not to get to Bute before Froch did. I think he would have destroyed him in similar fashion.

Kessler was a stud and easy to root for. I will always remember his outting with Calzaghe. Great fight that was. He really displayed to the world his grit in tough times in that bout. One fight I would have loved to have seen him take would have been Bute. But other than that, he faced the who's who at the weight.

Lovely fella, very good boxer. Not within sniffing distance of greatness, obviously, but a damn good fighter.

I still reminisce about his right hands to the body in the first Froch fight. Sigh.

Glad he got out when he did. No comebacks, please Mikkel.

A guy who came in to fight and entertain. Would have loved to have been to see him live but never materialised.

He came across as a good bloke too.

A proper fighter who deserves to enjoy his retirement.

I'd like to see him fight again as he's fan friendly and was still a high quality operator last time we saw him, but if he isn't passionate about it anymore, then retiring is the right decision. It's good to see a world class fighter call it a career without fighting way past his prime.
