Realise this type of fight has been mentioned for a while now, BUT
great work by Hearn of this comes off.
As a fan, I`d be delighted to see Burns get another shot, and just be happy for him to give it a real go and really worry Figueroa

RICKY BURNS, the ex-two-weight world title-holder from Coatbridge, is understood to be close to securing a money-spinning bout against World Boxing Council champion Omar Figueroa in the States.
Burns, 31, is expected to be confirmed soon as the undefeated 25-year-old Mexican-American's latest challenger on a bill in Figueroa's home state of Texas or Las Vegas.
The Scot's promoter Eddie Hearn is believed to be close to sealing the deal for Burns to appear on the same bill as former world middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Junior once the venue has been confirmed.

I think he has a good chance as Figeroa didnt look very good last time & has well documented weight issues, although in fairness Burns hasnt looked too good lately either.

If he's struggling at the weight and it's on a big card, am i being too cynical to suggest that he'll come i overweight and pay ricky a bit extra? It's not like burns hasn't got well documented financial issues through legal cases

Good news for Burns but I'm not so sure if he's capable of another title. I hope I'm wrong. He seems to have went down hill rapidly since arguably his best performance against Mitchell. What a story it would be if managed to pull it off on away soil though!! No matter what the result is he's achieved far more than what most people thought he was capable of and he is definitely someone to look up to for any youngsters getting into the sport.

A couple years ago I would have been confident that Burns could beat Figueroa.
On his last few performances I'm not 100% convinced, though I still wouldn't bet against it as Figueroa is nothing special.
Is Figueroa still WBC champ, I thought he moved up to 140?

I like Ricky Burns I really do but if anyone else who had only once one 8 rounder in their last 4 fights was to get a world title shot people wou;ld rightfully questrion it.

I do think the whole send him over to america as an opponent seems like a all or bust type last chance from Matchroom.

Good luck to him :TU:

He changed his mind & stayed at lightweight.

So just to confirm because I'm pretty sure I'v lost it. Who is the WBC champ? It says in that report that it is Figueroa, but Linares just won the Vacant title??

I'm confused also, the WBC website has Figueroa listed as champion aswell.

i'd love for you to be proved wrong but I kind of agree

I know nothing obviously but since the jaw injury he just hasn't been the same, reminds me of when Haye destroyed enzo mac.

I do like Burns though a lot so i hope I'm wrong.

A fight burns can win in my eyes, styles makes fights and I amnt impressed with him, does alot of things good but nothing great, similar to burns, he needs to fight to his strength, keep shots straight , jab, cross with the wicked hook to body, high work rate and Stop going for ko,

Should clear some of the confusion up. He is champion in recess.

Burns really doesn't deserve a title shot. As much as I like the guy, he is finished now. He has tremendous heart, and how he hasn't been KO'd in some of his recent fights is incredible.

If its in Texas he has no chance, even the old Ricky burns couldn't beat him there, he'd be lucky to knock him out and get a draw.

I think this is great matchmaking for the Mexican. Ricky is a two weight world champion and will sell as a very credible comeback fight. However, he is a shadow of his former self and has looked absolutely gun shy in his last few fights. I think this will be very one sided.

Figeroa is one of my favourite fighters. Comes forward non stop and thows 100 punches per round. If this happens it will end Burns at world level.

Off-topic, but in the history of all that's unholy, is Jorge Linares the fighter to win the most belts without fighting one dangerous boxer ever?

I was about to rant about this, but have decided to post this, instead:

I'd like to see him win, I just don't think he has enough left. Figueroa hasn't impressed me a lot as a champion, but Burns has looked far from prime form in his last few. If he can turn back the clock a few years, then it's a totally winnable fight. That's a big ask though.

A shot at Omar Figueroa is an excellent opportunity for Burns and one he should get up for,Ricky hasn't looked good since Mitchell and after blowing the eliminator against Zlaticanin has to be grateful for any big fight that comes his way

A couple years ago Figueroa would be tailor made for a prime Ricky Burns but now Figueroa beats him easy and probably put him down en route to a decision win

At his top dollar best Burns would probably best Figueroa. But now it's very unlikely.

If he gets the shot fair play it'll be a decent pay day but a bit of a slap in the face to Zlaticanin.
