How much would you donate to stop Danny Williams boxing?

Based on a completely hypothetical idea I had on another thread, I'm wondering if the boxing fans of this country would be generous enough to help one of its own, Danny Williams, end his perpetual boxing torment of being whacked around by mediocre Eastern Block Heavyweight prospects, which he seems to do just to keep his children in private schooling.

So I'm posing the hypothetical question of how much would you personally donate to help out a guy who's provided us with some memorable and interesting fights in the past? They weren't all classics - but Danny went further than a lot of fighters who arguably had more natural ability, and has shown great bravery across his career (even now!) - particularly when you consider the man's pre-fight nerves, which have been well documented.

The imaginary money would be given to Danny gradually over the course of several years, on the agreement that he wouldn't fight again.

Nothing, if Danny was genuinely penniless and was fighting to make ends meet, I could understand people putting money in, but I'm not paying for his kids education, that's what taxes are for.

Sweet FA. He can stop any time he wants to.

Obv I wouldn't want to see him hurt and wish him no ill will, but it's his path at the end of the day.

Take the kids out of private school and invest time helping them study at home. That's always an option. I'm sure a private tutor twice a weeks a fukk of a lot less than the school he's got them in.

I can see your point, and there definitely are more worthy causes in the world. If you can ignore the slightly nanny-Esque notion that we should be allowed to intervene in Danny's decisions, then I think saving him from continued physical damage in the ring is a relatively noble thing to do. Perhaps if Ali had been made to stop fighting after the Rumble in the Jungle or Manilla fights then he wouldn't be in such frail health now? Completely speculative of course.

Anyway, if we take the averages of the current imaginary donations then it's avout £260. Over ten years that's £26 a year to stop Danny from fighting. Might not be enough for private schooling... Perhaps one 30 minute private tutoring session per year for one of his kids?

Whatever i could potentially afford to donate, I'd rather put away towards my own kids potential private or university education!

What a ridiculous thread. Nothing. It's his responsibility. You want me to pay for his daugters' private education because he didn't manage his money or expenses right? Fvck right off

Laugh all you want, some generous sod is prepared to give Mr. Williams a sum between 25k and 100k. All Danny had to do was ask, is seems! :TU: I'm still confident we can breach the 500k mark, which I think is what would set the man up.

Given a choice, would you rather have your money go to Danny Williams, or an audience with Eddie Hearn? :yay:

Nothing I do feel for the bloke but as said its not like he needs it to stay off the streets, if I was in a position where I could afford my kids to be privately educated and have plenty spare then I might give him a tenner......actually no theres plenty of other better causes.

You raise 500 k for him and he will still box, whatever you earn is never enough, you always find something to spend it on.

I will dontate if I found out he got less than 100k combined for the Harrison/Klitsckho and Tyson fights - if he got more - sod him!

This is laughable.

He's had a good career, fought some high profile fights & should have made some decent money doing it.
He's the one choosing to box on & risk his health just so his kids can go to public school, no way I'm going to finance his kids so they can get a "better" education.

At this stage of his career he's not going to be on great money to fight anyway, could get a job which doesn't involve him getting repeatedly punched & earn enough for his kids schooling.

Andy Ayling had to chase it up on the night, he got $250,000 (£140,000) for Tyson: http://www.BS.com/andy-ayling- ... ood--75220.

Some reported £300,000 for Klitschko, others said a million plus in dollars and with a percentage held over the pre-fight managerial dispute. Most articles state £300,000, though, and a take home of £70,000 for Tyson once everything was settled.
Thanks for that Tel. So he has earned decent money and his British/Commonwealth title defences, thus he has earned decent money full stop.

If Danny was injured or sick and he needed money for an operation then I would gladly put my hand in my pocket, but he has earned well and why can't he go and find a job, if he had to stop boxing tomorrow?

One of his purses would have paid for a university education AND a masters degree - could have gone to Loughborough and done a degree in sports nutrition (don't laugh everyone) or something along those lines. He is a bright guy.

You need plan B in life, it's nice to splurge it on holidays, private school and a nice house but the bills don't go away and there will be time someone will stop him putting on the gloves.

You'd think he wouldn't have trouble getting work in security either. But obviously boxing pays more so he does it this route.

The man doesn't need money; he needs an intervention.

Does the dinner circuit say no sometimes to people?

This thread is a bit of a joke - it's got variations on a similar theme "no way will I give money to Danny Williams!" - as though Danny Williams had set up his own page online asking for donations to ease him into retirement from boxing. There's a few negative comments that have got absolutely no connection to him whatsoever.

Also 25k to 100k??..............is this serious? Who is that one aimed at, I haven't seen Roman Abramovich's name on the forum. Does the OP suppose that a person exists upon Earth that would cough up 25k of their own and give it to someone else. It doesn't quite work like that.

The issue with Danny Williams is that he had offers to do something else, mostly security jobs, but turned them down. Look at his interviews on IFL tv.
The amount of money that would be paid in security is nowhere near what he is getting for being beaten up.

It's a bit like these good looking Eastern European girls that do porn. You sometimes wonder why they're doing it, some of them speak 3-4 languages, went to Uni in their home country and are far from stupid. Well, the porn industry pays well, and, €5,000 a scene in countries where the minimum wage is €300, the choice is easy for some.

Anyway, as some posted here, even if some people did offer cash for Williams to quit, he wouldn't. He would stay away from the sport a couple years and then make a comeback, finding a new excuse to cash in ('my daughters are going to Uni', 'I have grandchildren to look after', 'my pension is too low to live in London' etc...)

My trainer in my local gym in Paris was actually telling me yesteday how he had to do all sorts of security jobs after he retired and before becoming a trainer. Williams clearly gives the impression that he has planned his retirement properly.

I would be more inclined to offer Danny a job if i was a businessman such as a security firm. Im sure Danny would be good at event security. Rather than giving him charity to stop him fighting he needs a good monthly income, would he be happy with a monthly wage of around £1500 take home, per month?

I'm afraid it's a no from me too.

But whilst I'm on, I am risking my life by gun running to Syria every weekend. It's a dangerous job but I've got bills to pay. Any chance of a whip round so I can give it up?

Nothing, plenty of boxer have earned less than Danny and are not disgracing the sport the way he is doing currently.

I read that Danny Williams interview as a practical confession that he is taking dives.
