Baker was a tough nut.

Wasn't his nickname, 'Plod'? I think he'd got massive feet.

Baker beat Garry Delaney in the 1990 London ABAs. Delaney struggled with the slippery, aggressive Baker and was slung out for holding in the third round.

Mark was very underrated, a tough man who could box andd fight, although usually ring fit, conditioning was not his strongpoint. Dean Powell told me he tracked Mark down for his british title fight with neil simpson at really short notice he'd been training on kebabs n lager! Lost an 8rounder to him in my last fight at york hall. Nice chap, his sons can have a 'do' also.

Hi manno you boxed a fellow I know from Doncaster, John Oxenham - he's still involved with boxing, training amateurs, he's not far off his fighting weight.

Alright palooka, yeh I remember John well, very correct boxer and well schooled I think he finished up half n half and took a couple of jobs at the end for a few quid. I dropped him heavy in the first round then couldn't have hit him with a handful of gravel for the next six bumped into him when I was coaching kids and promised him a copy of our fight... If you bump into him tell I ain't forgot

I saw you pop up on Ron Hopley's Facebook a while back Manno. Very good chat on your trip to the States. Great team. Ron is a great guy, too.

Manno, I see John or his wife and brother pretty regular, I'll definitely remind you to him, he really enjoys talking about his boxing days and he is one of the soundest around, I have never in 30 years seen or heard of him throwing his weight around and he puts a lot of time and effort into training his team, he's got a good set up - he trains with Carl Tilley who really knows his stuff.

yeh mickey, that was a class team, Paul ingle,Franny Hogg, mccarrick,john mett...and a lot of good kids who never turned over. Ron was great friends with Henry even then and it's nice that they run a gym together and that their friendship has endured

Ron has been there through thick and thin, still is! He's like one of their family.
