Has anyone seen the reverse Camera film of this fight. Im sure you have all seen the fight many times. I was going through my fights the other day and found it. Truly remarkable to see another angle to the knockdowns. It gives you a true brutal vision of that fight. I finally found it on Youtube for those who havent seen it before : -
Head to about 6 min into the film

Oh yes, Evren
All those years ago I actually bought this film in Super 8 format.
I cost a bundle at that time, but I loved to watch it. It might still be in the attic somewhere.

Hello Gentlemen,
The version of this fight with the reverse angle was from a film series that was produced by Big Fights Incorporated called The Greatest Fights of the 70's. They also put out a Greatest Fights of the 60s tape. They were both very popular rentals during the videotape era of the early 1980's and the first taste of some of the fights that were in the Big fights collection for many of us.
This particular fight was of course the Closed Circuit call with Don Dunphy and none other than Pearl Bailey at ringside providing the commentary. Why Pearl Bailey I really don't know?

There is a reverse angle of the Muhammad Ali vs Earnie Shavers bout too thats really interesting.
I think it was from the closed-circuit overseas British broadcast edition.
BTW
Pearl Bailey was a big boxing fan and good friends with Joe Louis.
As a matter of fact Joe Louis was part of her stage act
when she was performing at the Flamingo hotel and casino in Las Vegas Nevada back in the 1960's.
He even appeared as one of her guests on her TV special back in the early 1970's.
BTW Did you just read the Joe Louis in Las Vegas?

I obtained quite a few versions of the Ali vs Shavers fight. There is the closed circuit version, the NBC version. About ten years ago I got 2 x 1600 ft reels of Ali vs Shavers which turned out to be a British Call of Reg Gutteridge which is really cool. Lastly I got a lovely mint copy from Earnie himself which has sound but no commentary and has a huge amount of pre fight footage of the audience..panning in on Sly Stallone etc. It's a really cool film.

I suppose Big George should have just let Joe Frazier keep getting inside with his head right under his jaw and and always just below face and butt him and possibly severly cut him as a result, either intentionally or not?

and may I ask why not Pearl Bailey?(who had made history in it as the first female boxing broadcast host)
man, you sound like you may be sum type of male chavenist sexist.
would one be correct in assuming that sir?
BTW Joe Louis use to sing a duet with Pearl Bailey too during her show in Las Vegas.

There used to be a lot of celebrity boxing analysts during 70's closed-circuit bouts----Bailey, Redd Foxx, Burt Lancaster, Jim Brown.
Of course, most of them added absolutely nothing to the telecasts but somehow the promoters believed their star power would draw fans to the theaters.
Ridiculous.
Sexist or not, Pearl Bailey had to be the worst of these celebrity "experts."
I know it's very un-P.C. in this era to disparage a female or you draw instant criticism from guys like Caractus, but she out-and-out stinks. Luckily the little ladies are no longer part of these big bout telecasts.
Now if we could only eliminate them as judges.

man,you sound nuts.
Miss Pearl was terrific, she always was terrific.
now the chick who called the Muhammad Ali vs Richard Dunn fight,
Candance Bergman, she was kind of bad.
To quote Terry Downs,she wouldnt
"know a left hook from a butchers hook".
One celebrity guest host I remember was James Brown
on the Ali vs Wepner closed-circuit bout.
"I may not know Karate but I do know Ka-Razor".

Caractacus,
There was nothing sexist or misogynistic intended by my comment. "Why Pearl Bailey, I don't know" However I will support Senor Pipino on this one and offer that she added nothing to the broadcast which would have heightened the perspective of the viewer on either the combatants or technical observation.
Sounds to me like your one of these individuals who enjoys starting "Flame Wars" on the board!

Mikey,
Do not take the bait. You are worth a million of him. This place has sure got creepy around here with Caractacus and X2X cottaging one another and always on Brutu's old posts...hmm strange that isn't it?? You are accused of Misogyny when their posts are laced with underlying racism and homophobia! Deliberately being insulting to Joe Louis is plain awful. Stating that he couldn't have penned his own book because he was illiterate...These buffoons haven't accomplished 1/1,000,000th of the things that Louis did but they are heroes in their own eyes and undefeated keyboard warriors!

oh,I get it,you guys can make all the sarcastic and ubstantuated comments you want about some people,
but if someone like me sticks up for them now since theyre long deceased and cant speak up for them selves,
Im the bad guy right?
Hey You'r the one who made the comment about Pearl Bailey not being fit for a boxing broadcast.
Thats just yur opinion because she sounded fine to me.
I bet you and evereb dont even know who Pearl Bailey was and her accomplishments.
I do know that she had a television show on the network around that time, because my mom and dad use to watch it.
and guess who a guest was on one of her shows?
thats right the brown bomber himself,Joe Louis!

You wanna know why I think they got Pearl Bailey for the broadcast?
How about some diversity in the booth for once.
Maybe some housewives and other various women and demographics would then probably turn in to watch it and bring the ratings up.
Thats showbiz!

For many years I searched for the reverse angle of the Shavers vs Holmes knockdown and eventually found the ITV broadcast. It is strange when you have seen a fight so many times and then view it in a different view - you almost have a new take on it. I have been trying to get hold of the Lyle vs Foreman alternative version - I have a clip but not the whole broadcast - if anyone can help

here is a link to a clip from the Pearl Bailey show
with special guest star Satchmo and others.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H3vfqpt4iU4
btw that had to be one of Louis Armstrongs last public appearences.
He died just a few months later.
he didnt have his trumpet with him on the show because his doctor told him
he was too ill to play it without risk
(BTW im sure a learned poster like Jaclem would appreciate stuff like this)

Some of Frazier's left hook counters were lightning fast if you seen in the alternative angle film, but George was just brutalizing poor Joe. He didn't stand a chance that night. Foreman never looked so good before or since in my opinion. He certainly didn't resemble Zaire George.
