(I apologise in advance if this is considered personal advertising or goes against any forum rules, or if anyone is in anyway offended by the way in which I am going about this)

I am sure that there are plenty of people on this forum that have the great luck to work within boxing, whether that be a manager, promoter, sponsor, advisor, trainer or a boxer. And I am also certain that there are equally as many of you that would love to have the opportunity to work within the sport and business that you have such a passion for.

Currently, I go to a highly thought of university, doing a degree which should get me places in life (if all goes well). And within that degree programme, I have a placement year where I work for a company and I am basically treated as a normal employee, in a financial or operational type role, except for the fact that I am still just a paid intern. I then use the vast experience I gain within that year to expand on my knowledge and put theory into practise in order to help me in my final year and to give me a greater insight for when I eventually join the big, bad world of business.

Boxing is my passion, if I am not working or socialising then I am reading, listening or watching boxing. And it is a great desire of mine to work within the sport that I have such great enthusiasm for, hence the fact that I am trying to get a foot in the door during my placement year. However, so far my luck has been sour, due to the fact that boxing business is still fairly small compared to the giant companies like Rolls Royce, PWC, Land Rover etc. So far it has left me with a ‘no’ response (in a less harsh wording of course), or no response at all, which is why I am putting this message on here, a cover letter almost.
If anyone is involved in boxing, has contacts within boxing or has networks around the sport and would like to help me further on this then please feel free to PM me.

It would be a proud moment for me if I was to ever have the honour to work within boxing.

There'll not be more than a handful of people working in british boxing who can afford to pay an intern. There's not a lot of money to go round.

I hear Eddie Hearn needs a fluffer? The job will entail getting Eddie ready for his appearances at the popular 'Meet Eddie Hearn' nights. Fluffing him before interview so that he's wide awake and on form, and sometimes giving the Sky team a blow job to ensure regular PPV shows.

In a seriousness, good luck. To my knowledge there are long term not that many well paid jobs in boxing; so it may be a labour of love. Good luck though!

If you were my son at Uni, I'd tell you straight to get a decent and respectable career - and just buy yourself ringside seats with the good money you will likely earn and leave it at that.

Good luck mate hope you get fixed up, money isn't everything, much better to do a job you love.

Thank you for all the support so far, as well as the advice, whether that be to follow my ambition or stating their opinion on working within boxing. It is all very much appreciated.

Great post. Gomez will for sure no better Than me, but it's is the vibe I get. Create a boxing app and make a fortune that way. On that point anyone know how to make apps I have a boxing app idea? ;;-)

Gomez is spot on Sammy. I have worked in boxing for more than 25 years and believe me I speak from experience when I say its the greatest sport in the world but enjoy it from the paying seats and develop a well paid career.

Let us know how you get on sammy; it will be interesting to know how your experiences working within boxing are!

On a related note, wasn't there a competition on here many moons ago held by a promoter who offered the winner a chance to work for a period with the promoter and get an inside view of how the boxing game works? What happened with that?

When you say you just want to "work within boxing" do you have a particular area which is of interest?

Like one other person has said, I'd have thought your best way in would be through some of the trade publications. If you wrote some boxing articles and sent them to those publications I am sure someone there would be willing to read them and offer feedback and if they liked your writing style may offer you some sort of internship or even paid job.

Alternatively you could look to do what people like Kugan Cassius and Michelle Joy Phelps do which is to try to interview fighters and attend media events which you would then post on youtube or such like. I'm not sure how easy or well paid this would be in terms of getting access to fighters etc but if you started by contacting the less well-known fighters then you could eventually end up being able to get press accreditation for some shows. Others would know better than me how difficult this is.

Other roles such as getting involved in the promotion of fights, training, working fighter's corners etc would seem much more difficult to get.

I think it's Loynesy who has a super successful career who's job(I think it's in law) brings him into A list boxing company now and again. But, reading between the lines, I think he's at the very too of the tree. Unless he's a bullshitter...(I don't think he is).

Parson Cross also has some sort of consultancy, sports law I think I remember reading and he is really close to some boxers.

Parsons is friends first with the fighters, I think his work sometimes involves mainly other sports.

This was pretty much me about 13 years ago, well minus the highly thought of university bit, mine was just average. After of years of trying I did have a career in boxing, but I left it for some of the reasons Gomez mentioned.

I enjoy just being a fan now, and also having seen many different sides to the sport I now know that I'm not missing much, but when I was a 21 year old graduate I would have bit anyone's hand off to do some of the stuff I ended up doing. Times change and it just lost its appeal.

Amateur boxing is a good start, try England Boxing or GB Boxing for an internship, they are fairly robust and always looking for skilled help (especially if they don't have to pay much). Try the WSB or AIBA too. There's always opportunities, just most aren't that glamorous to start with.

Even if media isn't your thing, try Sky for an internship in whatever field your studying then once you are there, go and make some coffee in the boxing department, get to know the team and ask to be placed there if they need a hand. It sounds far fetched, but ask some of the guys there how it all started.
