Hi All,

Sorry if this subject has been posted before but I did look and could not find anything.

Anyway, I was wondering if people could post up links to boxing documentaries, fighters or trainers that they feel are worth a watch? I do a lot of travelling for work and love watching them to help past the time.

I have listed two below to get started which I feel are great to watch and if you have not already seen them i'm pretty sure you will enjoy them.

I'm getting through 'Shoah' it's on demand and is really bleak viewing, it's about the concentration camps - it is still mind bending the organised murder of thousands and thousands a day and the will to live of the survivers is incredible - I'm sure I'd not have been anywhere strong enough.

Bleak subject aside, it would have been quite amusing if you hadn't included the explanation & directed a load of enthusiastic boxing fans to a 10 hour holocaust documentary.

The Jack Johnson documentary Unforgiveable Blackness is an excellent combination of boxing & socio-political history.

Naked Sport: Welcome to the sewer is fantastic, it shows what a shitty business boxing really is.

This documentary on the Hiltons is well worth a look. It flicks between French and English in the interviews, but English subtitles are always provided.

It's a bit bleak. Pushy father. Sons who just know boxing. Alcohol problems, prison, crime.

Also Davey Hilton got sent down for child sexual abuse on his own daughter. He married Arturo Gatti's sister I believe, there's a big Mafiosi style wedding. But at the time the doc was filmed, the facts couldn't be revealed to protect the daughters. Now it's common knowledge.

There's also no info on the attack that left Mathew Hilton badly damaged. I'm not sure if this is for legal reasons.

It's a dark documentary about the most well known Canadian boxing family.

yeah, I'd have sent people into a deep malaise and depression.

facing Ali, is very good. a great insight in to what a fight against him meant for the opponent.

I just watched Manny last week,it was a good watch,Sons of Cuba is excellent,Klitschko was great,Champions Forever,Thriller in Manila, I am Ali,all very good

you can find it on youtube. Its about the effects long careers can have. Dementia pugilistica and other kinds of damage... Its sad, but powerful stuff.

There is a documentary on YouTube about a Yorkshire heavyweight from the 80's possibly Paul Sykes I could be wrong about the name but that was very interesting and bizarre/sad at the same time

good documentary. Dave Hiltons daughter has written a book about the abuse, but its in french only. He denies it.

Its been on my watch list for years. I understand its a French documentary with other foreign languages spoken (Polish, German, possibly others). The only versions i could find had subs for the French spoken parts only, i've not been able to find a version yet that has English subs for all spoken languages, hence the reason i've not yet watched it.

Are you watching this on Netflix, or somewhere else? Is it fully subbed?

I just watched it. It was an interesting viewing but commentator was trying too hard to present the "dirty" side of boxing with little actual evidence presented. Its funny how Briggs is saying he would never fight old age as he would be then made millions and billions lol.

Hi, I got it off sky arts on demand, it is subtitled, it's worth the effort but it made me ask myself what I'd have done if I were a Polish peasant or a Ukrainian and I didn't like the answers I came up with. There are some really callous people who really do not seem at all bothered about what they've done or how they behaved and some of the survivors stories are just incredible and terribly heartrending - how on earth they coped with the rest of their lives is beyond me altogether.

It was shown over two parts on BBC4 a few weeks ago. It's currently on BBC iplayer.
