I think this fight will inevitably happen as canelo cannot stay at jr middleweight much longer as he's simply outgrowing the class. Some may criticize canelo, but one thing they cannot say is that he is "afraid" or "ducking" anyone. I think he will take that fight. Winning on the other hand is a whole other deal lol

Only way Oscar would agree to Canelo fighting GGG. Is if GGG looks mortal
in a near future bout.

Please; lets not start another will they/won't they superfight saga.
The last one has been going on for six years & still isn't resolved.

No, they are a weight-class apart and after GGG is done with Murray, likely to be 2 weight-classes apart.

Canelo will be at middleweight by years end.At least I believe he won't be able to make 154 anymore.
You may be right about GGG moving to 168.

Canelo might, if Golovkin moves up and Cotto wants it, but he's a lot more likely to stay at 154 than Golovkin is at 160.

It should be a fight in the near future. Canelo has clearly outgrown the Jr. Middleweight division as he demanded a catchweight of 155 against Lara despite the fact that winning a WBA belt would have been in play. It's a shame that Golovkin has been demolishing every available opponent in the division while the linear champ Cotto will probably hold out to fight Canelo in the not so near future. This just means Golovkin will have to wait a long, long time for a shot at a super fight.

Yea it'll be made at some point. I tend to think the earliest it'd be is in the fourth quarter of this year or 2016.
GGG doesn't seem like he's moving up anytime soon & Saul, while still catchweighting at 155 right now, could bump up to 160 any time. Once Saul is officially at 160, he's the #2 guy & there will be constant talk of GGG vs Saul.
The main reason this fight happens is Saul has shown he'll fight whoever at this point in his career. He definitely was weakly moved earlier in his career, but I think he's taken his career trajectory into his own hands now & the kid wants to fight the best. Regardless of the GBP situation this'll happen. Cuz if Oscar doesn't do what Saul wants to do while he'll protect Saul's record it'll likely damage their relationship & Saul will seek other promotion thus Oscar loses him anyway. It'll be a lose lose situation on Oscar's end.

And for what its worth I think we can expect to see ggg at 160 for a long time because theres still guys to beat there. Cotto, andy lee, quillin, danny Jacobs, Lemieux could all be potential fights for him down the line.

160 is getting a lil interesting with the name cats there. Billy Joe is a fun guy to watch too. I suspect Eubank's son will be in the mix more in a year or so. Ryota Murata is coming up quick. Ievgen Khytrov isn't too far behind him. Willie Monroe even makes some interesting fights vs some cats & is more known with the Boxcino deal. With whats waiting at 168, Andre Ward (who I can't see GGG beating) & not much else its in GGG's best interest to stay at 160 even if he was having weight issues.

Peter Quillin & Danny Jacobs are Al Haymon fighters, so GGG won't be facing them, with 'Kid Chocolate' challenging Andy Lee for his WBO title.
I think its a lil earlier to suggest the fight freeze of 2014 that Haymon was a large part of will necessarily be continued going into 2015 or further. I think Haymon had strategic reasons for not putting his guys in tough in 2014, that some will agree with & others won't. With this bigger status in the boxing world & so many outlets (NBC, NBC Sports, Spike, Showtime, perhaps ESPN, maybe Telemundo & BET). Haymon gots a huge roster, but idk if he's got a huge enough roster to not make some cross promoted fights & keep up with the quality that'll be expected based on the first couple cards.
Jermain Taylor will never fight again.
I don't think anyone cares about this one. Jermain was kinda lucky to win the belt in the first place & few will really notice his departure imho. I mean he was on deck to fight Sergio Mora ffs. Not like there were big moves made & if there had been moves planned it'd probably have just been sacrificing Jermain to Daniel Jacobs or Peter Quillin at some point.

Will GGG ever fight another elite fighter?
Ok, rant over, but his career is dragging. The big fights for him are not happening for whatever reason, i'm fed up waiting on seeing him in a truely meaningful fight. He's no spring chicken, in a couple of months he turns 33. He has had a long run of showcase fights, the boxing world knows he's a huge talent, he should only be in elite fights from Murray onwards.
Call me pessamistic, but somehow i dont see that happening. I wont be surprised if he fights another fringe contender after Murray.

Amen.
I don't know how the GGG fans can continue to be OK with him fighting second raters. At some point you have to cut out the excuses and fight real guys. All the legends have done so. Hell, even Canelo Alvarez is fighting real guys.

Who's he supposed to be fighting exactly? His resume definitely has room for improvement I'd agree, but Sergio got beat plus hasn't fought since & seemed to have been avoiding GGG for bigger money opportunities before that & Miguel doesn't seem like he's in any hurry to fight GGG either. So idk how you can lay the blame on GGG. GGG is the B side to most of the bigger names at 160 so they gotta decide to fight him & some of the other top guys aren't fighting on HBO (which Ferg reminded me of) due to the Al Haymon banishment from HBO so those fights aren't capable of being made.

Once GGG becomes undisputed middle champ, the purses will come, even against B -opposition.
A KO machine like him doesn't need to run after boring fighters like Canelo or Ward.
He will become what Tyson was in 1988.

Exatcly how is Golovkin going to become the undisputed middleweight champion? It's not as daft a question as it seems.
He's the mandatory for the WBC: he will get the belt this year.
Once WBC and WBA champion, his drawing power will improve, giving him more leverage to unify.
Until he starts slowing down (35 or so), Canelo, Cotto, PBF, Quillin will do everything to avoid him.
That leaves us about 6-8 fights against b opposition until then.
It is what it is.

Golovkin may eventually pick up another belt to add the WBA “super” title he already owns, but it’s extremely unlikely that he’ll “unify” the division in the true sense of the word... and that's a shame.
When he gets that WBC belt, what are you going to say ?
There will always be Rubio/ Bruce Seldon kind of titlists, willing to go 3 rds in exchange for a fat paycheck.
fergusg wrote:but he only holds the WBA title and the best opponents on his resume are a past-his-prime Daniel Geale and a borderline top-ten contender Matthew Macklin.
And Mike Tyson's best win is ...?
A shot Larry Holmes.
It didn't prevent him becoming the biggest well-paid fighter of all time.

Really ?
How many threads are you going to create lamenting on GGG's lack of world calibre opposition ?
All the while giving a free pass to all the champions/ contenders tarnishing their own "reputation" by refusing to face him ?
Surely, that's a coincidence (not).

In about 2 years time, GGG might just be the unified middle.
Any champion moving from super welter will have to face him if he wants a belt at the higher weight.
Plenty of superfights on the horizon.
In the meantime, troll away.

He's too old to become what Tyson was in 1988. I think he's too "foreign" to become THAT mainstream too. He's doing what he can to become mainstream though so respect & good luck to him there. He's a chill almost always happy, fun guy who's a bad mfer in the ring. He's seemingly trying to copy the Manny model for crossover/mainstream appeal. Personally I think Manny was an anomaly on his mainstream success, but maybe GGG can become that same sort of anomaly too. I just know most aren't capable of being mainstream with age & "foreign-ness" against them in the US. And I think GGG not having a Morales or Marquez like Manny hurts him too.

I’m not trolling you… merely educating you to the statistical facts of the situation.
You like to have an uneducated opinion, which is fine, whereas I like to obtain facts prior to jumping to conclusions.
There has been many "superfights on the horizon" for Golovkin for the lasty two years, but none of them have materialised.
Yes, because of the cold war politics that you so love to make threads about EVERY SINGLE WEEK. You are indeed a troll, just a more refined one than Brut is. You keep saying you like Golovkin, but I don't believe that for a second. You want Triple G to leave 160 for 168 and fight Ward because you believe he would lose and therefore you could come back and say how Golovkin was always overrated. You obviously can't stand the fact that Triple G is the man at 160. Troll on Rover!
