That's correct flump conteh had small frail hands & often busted his right which he states gave him an incredible left as he'd use it constantly in training

You could say, that injuries made Calzaghe the fighter he was and he may not have had the success he had late in his career without them.

he had recurrent issues with his hands but boxed on.
Rated as heavy handed in his early career, he relied far more on "light" punching and fast hands to dominate opponents that he may not have been able to do if he was looking for the power shots.

Calzaghe was very heavy handed in the early part of his career, dropping people like Mark Delaney who'd never been down am or pro and Eubank who Benn couldn't drop; he was destructive - I remember watching him v Stinger Mason and he absolutely blasted him off his feet and into the ring post.

I'll freely admit that I'm biased towards Gomez before saying that a. whilst I understand why he did it to an extent, I don't think Brian Hughes made the right call pulling Mike out when he did and b. at that point in his life Gomez was definitely not 'living the life'. All that said, Gomez was the real deal and Lear beat him, so fair dos.

Nigel wright had reached the prime of his career I believe when it all had to end, think he could have been a euro champ.

Yeah absolutely loved Gomez too,such a warrior and one of my favourite fighters from that era.

Lear was used to sparring heavy handed fighters and had the style down to a tee, he'd jab, take a half step back to avoid the counter and then throw 1,2,3. Kevin was very good and was supposed to be a really down to earth and decent man, his brother, Denny was a very hard hitting combination puncher but he didn't turn pro.

He went on a lads holiday and dived in a swimming pool and did his shoulder really badly, I think he had a few operations but it wasn't ever the same.

Who was that little flyweight from London who was a tremendous amateur though he had serious drug issues? Was it Costello? I think he won a couple of ABA titles and was a really good boxer.
