Like I said, Haymon is bringing boxing back to the forefront by making it free, the casual fans will start to know someone else besides Floyd, Manny and Miguel and we will get to see some high action fights without having to pay PPV costs to do so.

While I like anyone thinking outside the box in boxing (a rare act indeed as a guy who's a fan of innovation), "savior of boxing" is a bit much brother.

Some good looking fights there.

So Heymon is gonna have cards on NBC, NBCSN, Spike TV, CBS, and Showtime now?

I know he has a big roster but it is still going to be stretched thin.

Idk about this. Guys are talking about being more active too. Thing is right now HBO & Showtime only have so many dates so you can't fight as much even if you wanted to unless you wanted to take a pay cut.

And Al's roster is retardedly immense. I think its underreported how good his roster is from the top guys to the prospects/fringe contenders to the 5 or less fight level guys. He's got like 25% of the top 100 p4p guys (based on boxrec rankings), he's got about 80-90 guys on the way up still. So he's got a ton of card filler type guys. Only a handful of those top guys are every time out headliners thus if anything I think this just insures there are going to be more good cards before the main event. Which people may or may not wanna see, but it seems to work for the UFC where people show up for the whole fight card & not just the main like happens all too often in boxing.

What did Bob Arum, Don King, HBO and Showtime do with all of their influence? They moved boxing even further from the casual fan.

What until one of these "Free" events get cancelled due to injury. It will be Friday Night Fights all over again. Only the self proclaimed "Hardcore" fans will be watching the scraps in awe.

I think it is great to have boxing back on two of the big TV networks. Watching TV on weekend afternoons and early evenings as a kid is what got me hooked as a fan. I believe this will do the same for the next generation of fans.

This is a problem all of combat sports has to deal with. Nothing you can do about it.

I suppose as a promoter it wouldn't be a bad idea to pay a boxer a standby fee for lack of a better term. Thus if someone gets injured in the intended fight the standby fighter could already have been in shape & training & could just step right in. If two of the three got injured you're still f#cked, but I think this would help with keeping a certain level of quality with a fight card main event most of the time even when an injury occurred. Now its just a subpar replacement taking the place of the injured guy more often than not.

I think the UFC does something like this unofficially or has just thrown out a line saying if you are ready to fight on a moments notice you will be compensated $xxxxx for that act alone or something cuz sometimes when a UFC fighter gets injured the new fight is better than the old one.

This is good news but I can easily see these getting cancelled after one run, especially if the fights turn out to be poor. For starters, they will be in tough time slots to do well in. Lots of series have come and died swift deaths on weekend afternoons.

I remember back around 2002 NBC brought back boxing on their main channel on weekend afternoons. There were actually some good action fights. It tanked.

I think the ratings demands in 2002 were way higher than they will be in 2015. Everyone is online. Everyone has 500 channels. I believe boxing has such a strong niche audience thats loyal that they'd probably have to drop the ball pretty badly for boxing fans to not tune in & for this to get killed out of the gate.

The difference is the network won't cancel if the ratings aren't high enough. Haymon Boxing makes that decision and hopefully their expectations aren't unrealistic for the first year or two. If it is given enough time to develop, I believe the fans will tune in and the fan base will increase.

I think a lot of people are pissed at Haymon - mainly because they are jealous that they didn't either have the money or the idea first.
