A short documentary on Shane McGuigan. Found it quite interesting, to be only 25 years old and train an elite fighter to a world title is some remarkable achievement.

Arrogant or confident? He believe in what his does and more importantly so do his fighters, particularly Carl.
Nothing wrong with a bit of arrogance mind....

I've met him once he seemed quite shy and decent. Other people that know him round the area say he's a good guy and down to earth.

I've also seen him playing dice on the corners of Battersea park, with his pit bull, spitting lyrics and flashing gang signs.

In my humble opinion the trainer is only as good as the boxer

Shane comes across well there. He's a well-spoken guy and I could imagine him communicating well.

I quite like The Frampton set up, I have seen things before where its been mentioned that Shane diets with Carl throughout the training camp. Thats a good touch. Especially when they will be spending so much time together during a camp, suppose it shows Shane's dedication and how seriously he takes his role. (if its true)
From what I have read and seen of him in the past it seems quite difficult not to like him as a trainer. Good luck to them.

After watching the video it is clear that McGuigan junior and senior are very confident in their own and each other's abilities.
Let's just hope that Frampton doesn't do to Barry what Barry did to "Mr Eastwood"

Came across well. Was he really that good as an am? I remember him coming down with his dad to our gym to soar, he was ok but a but predictable....maybe it was an off night

Can't see the hate he seems a good guy and talks sense when in the corner for fights.

I never seen him box, and only commenting because both Shane and Barry mentioned that he was "3 time national champion".
These were in the Novice competitions and not the ABA's - depending on your weight and who is in your age and experience category a boxer can pick up a title with only a couple of fights against so-so opposition.
I don't know if this happened here, but just bringing some balance to the comments they made.

I remember he won the Ulsters a few years back so he must have been decent, although I never actually saw him in action. He seemed to disappear quite suddenly after that though (for whatever reason). Then he resurfaced as a trainer. Come to think of it I'm pretty sure Carl boxed in the finals the night Shane won his title. Carl was good as an amateur but his pro career is something else, he's doing great and all credit to him.

I always thought that he had a well 'guided' amateur career, shall we say.
Removing himself from certain regions and competitions that threw up fights against opponents who would have taken him apart etc
I like him and his dad though. Both seem like nice fellas.

All this new science & over analysing just perplexes the basics & fundamentals.
Freddie roach never takes praise & always presents it to the fighters because if they don't believe they are boss as soon as they come unstuck they are searching for a new master.
Well done on Shane & it's working out but I'd say Barry is a fantastic an stilts and probably couldn't be ass'd training carl

Shane might prove to be a good trainer in the long run and good luck to him - but he was handed a gifted fighter who had benefitted tremendously from the hard work done by his amateur trainers and also his first series of fights under Gerry Storey as a pro. If you listened to team McGuigan you would almost think Shane introduced Carl to his first pair of gloves. OTT self promotion.
"You're only as good as the fighter you work with. I don't care how much you know, if your fighter can't fight, you're another bum in the park." Ray Arcel.

As long as everyone involved remembers that the McGuigans are employees and no more, then everything should be fine. Framptons the star of the team, by a billion miles.
