Fight was announced for April 11th for Jacob's WBA Regular Middleweight title. I know that Jacobs will be the favorite, but I think the Truax right hand could change the fight in an instant the way it did early against Donovan George and the way it did late against Jermain Taylor. Now the question is, can he land it? What are boxrec's thoughts?

Truax is average and his power really isn't all that exceptional. Jacobs takes this.

Caleb does have a chance though, that right hand does have some mustard on it as Taylor found out.

Truax is below average. Some good journeymen will beat him. Rosado would take his head off. A perfect example of Haymon's careful matching.

Truax only recently signed with Haymon in the summer of 2014.

Haters can't have it both ways. They complain that Haymon doesn't match his boxers against each other and then they complain when he does. Jacobs and Truax are both with Haymon. Somebody will lose (unless it's a draw or no contest) so the boxer who loses did not get an easy fight by being with Haymon.

OK, then whoever matched him knew about his abilities. Almost all his fights were against nobodies in Minnesota. The draw against Ossie Duran is the perfect illustration of his level.

Yes think so and he signed to fight GGG.

Waste of a career Pirog looked really impressive against Jacobs.

It’s too easy to criticize a stranger on a forum like this.

Dennis is right, Truax wasn’t managed or matched by Haymon. His management has been careful with him because he started boxing as a young man and had a very short amateur career. They matched him thoughtfully and developed him carefully, and now he’s a legit top 20 guy. He doesn’t do anything exceptional, but he does everything well, and his right hand is above average. His jab isn’t bad either.

I don’t like unfair criticisms.

Truax-Jacobs should be a good scrap. I think Jacobs might be overrated, and I’m sure that Truax is undervalued, mainly because he lacks a great amateur pedigree.

I think Jacobs wins this but I don't think it's a ridiculous fight to make. Jacobs is still not even a top 10 MW despite winning a bogus vacant title against Fletcher. I'd be a lot more critical if this were Quillin/Truax.

I agree. Jacobs was flattened by his only top ten opponent in my view, his best win is arguably over someone BJ Saunders steamrolled in two, and his next best win was arguably a 6-4 type of decision over a blown-up Ishe Smith who lost his previous bout and his next bout, but still managed win several rounds and hurt Jacobs twice. Jacobs has shined against poor opposition (one of the most inflated KO ratios in the sport imo) but I'm still not convinced he's world class despite holding a title.

Putting 'world champion' and 'world title' labels aside, it's not a horrible bout--Jacobs should win but I can see him having a tough time.

How will you explain his performance against Ossie Duran ?

Jacobs is barely a top 10 MW, but he will easily beat Truax.

Truax seems to have been slightly inconsistent in his performances. Looking at his boxing resume makes a person wonder how good he really is or isn't. Watching some of his fights left me with that same impression. He isn't flashy, fast, powerful, or super skilled. He is just above average with everything he does. He does seem to have a fairly decent chin.

Truax is not good. Jacobs comfortably.

I don’t have to explain the Ossie Duran fight, but as it happens I was at ringside and I saw a less experienced guy having trouble with a tricky, durable, experienced guy.
