Do you know the answer of the mystery? In the entire 130 years of organized boxing only twice (apparently) in history has happened:

* 2 current and reigning Champions
* Both undefeated
* Both American
* Both titles on the line
* Fighting each other

Name the 2 occasions?

And just very quickly, the Fight of the Century (Ali/Frazier I) doesn't count because Ali never held a World Title.

Curry vs Mcrory?

Leonard had lost by this point.

Spinks no longer carried a belt when he met against Mike.

Donald Curry/Milton McCrory & Timothy Bradley/Devon Alexander must be the answer.

Leonard wasn't undefeated going in to the fight. He lost to Duran the previous year.

That's one. My mate had actually asked me this question before, and it was reported before this fight that it was only the second time this had happened in the history of the sport.

To be fair, it's only in the last 50 years or so that it has been possible to have two titles on the line. To my knowledge anyway.

Yeah, when I saw the question I didn't realize it pertained to alphabet soup champions. I took it as two undefeated legitimate World Champions meeting, as in one stepping up in weight to fight another.

(I just hate what boxing has become as a result of the greed of the sanctioning bodies and the promoters and fighters who feel they benefit. Too many watered down titles doesn't help anything. They're just killing the goose who laid the golden eggs. But that's a discussion for another thread.)

Before we had the WBA & WBC - there was the National Boxing Association and the New York State Athletic Commission titles. But they were often able to get their Champions together and resolve it.

What about Mike Tyson v Tony Tucker?
Tucker - IBF champion
Tyson - WBC/WBA champion

Tucker - 34-0 coming in.
Tyson - 30-0 coming in.

Both American, all three titles on the line.

That makes three examples :TU:

Theoretically, it would have been possible for someone like Henry Armstrong. Imagine he moved from feather to lightweight, and the lightweight champ typically found it easy to make weight; they might both have come in at feather, and both titles could have been on the line.

When SRL fought LaLonde, to make the history books, he made LaLonde weigh in at 168 so the newly created Super Middle title could be on the line at the same time as LaLonde's 175lb title.

Armstrong did defend his lightweight and welter titles on the same night, once.

Ross fought Canzoneri twice with the lightweight and jnr lightweight titles on the line.

(Obvs they weren't undefeated, it's more in line with the other question)
