When will Quigg be mandated to fight Rigondeaux ?

Was talking with my friend about this at the weekend.

Quigg was given the 'Regular' belt before the Salinas fight in October 2013.

Rigo became Super Champion in April 2013 when he beat Donaire.

Looking at the WBA site it seems to be 18 months, I thought it was two years.

Surely this is due soon..............

Would be very interesting as I doubt Hearn wantsanything to do with this fight but then Quigg won't want to vacate either.

Only time I know the 'Super' fighting the 'Regular champ' as a mandatory was Klitcschko v Povetkin.

The rumour is Rigondeaux is off to Japan in summer to fight Shingo Wake so sometime after that? Maybe that Quigg Vs Frampton gets sorted first

The WBA don't force the Super champ to fight the regular champ. They don't mandate the Super champs to do anything really, it was clearly a means of preventing unified champions from just dropping their belt when they called a mandatory defence.

They do sometimes, its supposed to be after 18 months-2 years or 5 defences, but in reality they usually take longer. If Rigo's team pushed for Quigg to be forced to fight him they'd call purse bids for the fight.

It seems to be very very seldom. They pretty much make it up as they go along.

Also I'm almost certain the WBA super/regular title thing doesn't go back as far as Hopkins v Joppy. I know it's listed on boxrec but I'm fairly sure this rubbish with the WBA came in a lot more recently than that.

Funnily enough the WBA have just sent out purse bids for Ward-Froch! Can't see that happening any time soon....

Whats frustrating is that WBC, WBA and IBF have had meetings to improve boxing and scrapping these Regular and Super titles has not been mentioned.

For me it should be the first to go. Mandate all Super champs to face Regular champs and strip them of the belts if they refuse.

Took the words right out of my mouth,But I'v got to say though it makes money for the fighters and you can never take that away but if we take away these bullsh.. belts
we can go back to the good old days when being number 1 contender meant much more than it means today before these interim/world/super tittles the highest ranked fighters got paid
good money to defend his ranking until his legit shot at the world champ came around then this way people won't get confused who is the real world champion the way it is today you'd have to be a proffessor to figger out who the champ really is and that's not a fan friendly sport........... :salut:

No, that fight will never happen.

Top contenders tend to avoid taking their shot against Rigondeaux. It hasn't been highlighted enough, but Chris Avalos was also the number one contenders for the WBO Title - as well as being the no 1 for the IBF... But he choose to fight Frampton rather than Rigondeaux.

As such, Quigg will be able to keep that WBA World Title, yet -for some reason - never have to defend it against a top contender (anyone in the top 10) and Eddie will make sure that a fight between Quigg and Rigo will never happen.

As long as the Quigg vs Frampton saga rumbles on, it would give Eddie the perfect excuse to ask Quigg to vacate to avoid Rigo.
They can say they are chasing the big UK 'unification' fight with Carl and the Rigo fight doesnb't represent a good enough payday

or some such bollcks

But if Quigg vacates Then Eddie can't claim it to be a unification fight.

i really hope the WBA do this like with Frich Ward and also other weights to clear up the mess they have made

They will do a deal with the winner of Quigg / Frampton fighting Rigo. If they both fight, the winner hasn't got that very many options.
