I thought he had decent resilience but I think towards the end he was pretty much burnt out especially by the time he left wazza. It was evident v collazo the first time id seen him tire & didn't bring his strength up to welter.

Never a dead certainty. He could grit it out at a certain level.

His style definitely didn't help tho.

Yeah, his style added to his lifestyle between fights didn't help. Certainly not a bad chin though.

the only way his lifestyle wouldve weakened his punch resistance was the losing weight. I smoked 20 a day and boozed before every one of my fights. I never got ironed out.

Tsyzu caught him flush a few times (and it seemed he got caught bang on the chin at the start of every round that fight) and he came through that so certainly showed he had a good chin but as said above it was no certainty.

I still can't believe that fight is coming up to 10 years old.

I guess I was thinking more of when Hatton got hurt late against Lazcano & Mayweather, his conditioning was a factor in that imo. But yeah you're right, punch resistance is very different to chin.

I dont think you can achieve what ricky did with his style of fighting and not have a decent chin. It definitely 'went' a bit in his later fights. That sounds like a lifestyle that caught up with him as did age.

You didn't box st world level tho johnny & to your credit you wasn't easy to nail or you wouldn't of lasted me old mucker.

He took some absolute bombs from Tszyu but I think he began to decline a bit after that(also can't believe it's 10 years this year since that fight). He did look a bit ragged late on against Collazo but I think that was more a strength issue than a chin one.

Didn't wazza chop him in at the right time as if to say I've earnt enough now let's take a risk?
For years the he priced himself out & he don't want it & I'm offering him his biggest purse bs was at large & most bought into it & yo hattons credit he Allways pushed for it

Weight cutting is bad at the best of times but the amount the Hatton had to cut must have had a detrimental affect towards the end of his career. Plus his style was made for Floyd and Manny.

To be fair, i don't think he had a style of boxing the night he fought Manny!

I think he had a decent chin but it was only really tested against Tszyu. His head movement was underrated. Against Mayweather he was chasing the fight and jumped into rather than walked into a shot. Against Manny, it all seemed completely disorganised and he was all over the shop and open to a southpaw.

It's a long while back so i might be wrong but i thought Hatton got up and shrugged the Magee knockdown off and won comfortably.

Magee hit him even harder in the second round and badly hurt him. The ref helped... Hatton himself says Vince hit him hardest.

Hatton had a great chin. Before Mayweather, he was only floored once (flash) and he used his head to blocked a shite load of punches throughout. Getting stopped only by Mayweather (late) and Manny Pac (under prepared/not himself) is not bad going in the chin department

Jon Thaxton was a really good puncher and he smacked Hatton hard and often and he came through; Hatton wasn't the same at welter and at light welter Manny caught him with some downright dangerous punches. Hatton had a good chin at world level, in his prime.

well ,no I wasnt,but I was saying that having a bad lifestyle doesn't make you more likely to be KO'd. I'm not comparing.
