Just curious who you think will be the next huge PPV star.
Now that Mayweather and Pacquiao are finishing up their careers.

Canelo. Maybe Keith Thurman after him. Ask me again after he fights Robert. Maybe Errol Spence. Terence Crawford could be if he's successful at 140lb & 147lbs. I think he'll have to get to 147 before he'll have more ppv quality fights. I think it'll be at 147lbs whoever it is after Saul.

Being that Saul Alvarez is only 24 and is already roughly a top 5 draw, I see him having a pretty big future in the ppv market. I think he gets more viewership than DLH / Mayweather / Pacquiao got at age 24.

By age 26, Danny Garcia could soon have wins over Amir Khan, Lamont Peterson, and Lucas Matthysse. Feels like a big head start towards a major career.

For a 26-year-old heavyweight, Tyson Fury is starting to amass a pretty deep resume. Plus it can be good for your bank account to be a British heavyweight with moderate crossover appeal to Americans. I think he has a little potential if he can avoid getting into a fight that he can't win. Plus, he is one of the fighters who stands a small chance of being first to beat a past-prime Wlad and inherit the crown.

Naoya Inoue is about a high on the p4p charts as a 21-year-old has ever gotten since Saul Alvarez himself. But 5' 4" fighters and Japanese fighters don't have much potential of being as famous as Mayweather / Pacquiao.

I don't follow the ins and outs of the business side as much as some, but....

Golovkin for a little while? I am somewhat of a a fanboy for most fighters truthfully, but that guy is pretty fun to watch and knockouts tend to sell, especially KO's of credible opponents....He seems kind of peripheral now, but it's amazing what one big time KO against a top tier opponent can do for marketability....

Alvarez seems to be the pretty clear candidate though, as long as he doesn't take a one sided beating from someone in the near future.

GGG, even though he hasnt got years and years left himself.

From a UK perspective Anthony Joshua has all the tools to become a PPV star but he's way off proving it just yet.

If Deontay Wilder can weather a string of competitive matches that would involve Klitschko, Fury and later Ruiz, Joshua and Parker over the next 4 or 5 years I would say he is a prime candidate.

I now think Thurman. dont get me wrong GGG is better, but GGG doesnt have quiet the competition Thurman has.

GGG is middleweight and will certainly move up to super middleweight in some years.

his ranch of opponents is canelo, quillin, cotto, khytov, miurata, froch, ward, abraham......thats basicly it.

Thurman is a big welterweight, who can also box at 154 in my estimates.

his ranch is far bigger, because a lot of top light welterweights want to fight at welterweight and since Thurman is physicly build big, he will certainly make some bouts at 154, where there is also a good pool of fighters.

his ranch of opponents is mayweather/pacquiao winner, bradley, brook, khan, marquez, garcia, broner, maidana, provodnikov, rios, canelo, lara, charlo bros, simply more options.

When the numbers come out I will predict about 400,000 but the rematch will do 1.5 million and the winner will exceed 2 million versus Joshua (if he ever signs a contract)

It would be great if there was never a “next PPV star.”

I think the era of the "PPV star" is coming to an end, but there'll always be a "Biggest Box Office Draw" in Boxing which will essentially be the same thing.

True., but I think that the PPV era has been one of the major reasons for the undermining of the sport’s popularity in America.

No question about it.

Ali, Sugar Ray Leonard, Hagler, Holmes, Frazier...fought on network Television, and those names are still known today even by people that don't follow the sport.

You mention Deontay Wilder or Gennady Golovkin to the average person and you get "Who?"

Joshua's definitely in position to do some good PPV numbers. He's already had shows that did 1.5, 1.3, 1.1, and 0.89 million buys. Further back, he also did 450k, 512k, 500k, and 420k. Against Fury or Wilder, he should be able to exceed 1.5 million buys.

It's really hard to say who will be the next PPV star. It just happens. I remember times when Mayweather and Pacquiao were both considered the cream of their divisions and neither were on PPV. The world was still stuck on De La Hoya and Tyson.

. . . and it was the GOAT fight too. (with the possible exception of Hagler v Hearns).

It was one of them. Still saad/Lopez 2 or Pryor/arguello for me.

Those were great too, as was Hearns v SRL I, and so many others.
