PBC SUCKS

- Clueless NBC commentators (other than SRL) that know nothing about boxing. And on top of that look like they don't even like boxing as a sport.

- Stupid solo "WWE style" entrances. Not walking on with their team and crew. Where was Thurman's WBA belt?

- No Ring Announcer? Like wtf is this? Boxing has always had a ring announcer. Why would you throw out such a key part of boxing tradition?

- Boxers were not recognized as champions. Thurman wasn't introduced as a WBA Champion. Guerrero is a former multi belt champion and so is Broner. Both were not recognized as former champions.

- Also what's the deal with these stupid suits they always wear in the promos? It feels like the whole whole project tries to make it seem like the guys in PBC are the only boxers on the planet. These Haymon fighters aren't even close to being the best. The whole thing looks so pretentious.

- Now I'm hearing that Haymon is also going to be making some stupid PBC belt? Like wtf is this? Some "mickey mouse" boxing league?

Anyways, knowing that Garcia - Peterson isn't even going to be for a belt, I'm definitely not going to watch this crap again.
The whole show made me realize how much I undervalued HBO and Showtime's production. They actually put on a product that has something to do with boxing. This thing just feels like a dumbed-down version of UFC/WWE for stupid casual fans that know nothing about the sport. And btw there were a lot of those in the arena as well.
If this is the direction that boxing will go in the future it truly is a dark future. And it's a shame because this whole project had a lot of potential if it was done right.

Agree. I didn't even like SRL tbh. I'd fire all those cats except Ali's daughter & BJ Flores & get some people who don't got grey ball hair. This age bias on boxing commentary is stupid. You don't gotta be a AARP member to talk about boxing. A young Al Bernstein gotsa be out there somewhere.
- Stupid solo "WWE style" entrances. Not walking on with their team and crew. Where was Thurman's WBA belt?
Agree with you mostly. Awful entrances. Awful music too. Let guys come out with their people & to their music. Entrances should be BIG. Make some K2 Klitschko type entrances, don't downplay them. Eff abc belts though.
- No Ring Announcer? Like wtf is this? Boxing has always had a ring announcer. Why would you throw out such a key part of boxing tradition?
I actually liked this. I don't understand the need for a in the ring ring announcer & its a lil disturbing the average boxing fan could probably point out Buffer or Lennon more often than GGG or at least a promising prospect like Errol Spence. Lets let boxers get a lil more attention.
- Boxers were not recognized as champions. Thurman wasn't introduced as a WBA Champion. Guerrero is a former multi belt champion and so is Broner. Both were not recognized as former champions.
I got no problem with this. Get guys in the ring, get the bell ringing asap, lets fight. I want pageantry going to the ring, once you're there lets fight asap, quick intro, no anthems, lets hit each other in the head now please.
- Also what's the deal with these stupid suits they always wear in the promos? It feels like the whole whole project tries to make it seem like the guys in PBC are the only boxers on the planet. These Haymon fighters aren't even close to being the best. The whole thing looks so pretentious.
Suits definitely odd to stupid imo. Either NBC has got some rules with how much leeway they give a guy buying primetime NBC time or Al is out of touch with what the people want.
- Now I'm hearing that Haymon is also going to be making some stupid PBC belt? Like wtf is this? Some "mickey mouse" boxing league?
Theres probably 50 belts & there are like 5 or w/e so called "legit" belts so I don't care about this. More belts can't hurt anything if thats the route he goes.
Anyways, knowing that Garcia - Peterson isn't even going to be for a belt, I'm definitely not going to watch this crap again.

They definitely need to work on this product, but I'm a boxing fan so I'm watching even if it gets worse instead of better. I think it still has a ton of potential & I think Al is a progressive thinker & just a smart mfer so this thing you saw isn't gonna be what you'll continue seeing 3, 6 or 12 months down the line. Guys like Al don't spend this much money on something to be tied to one concept. He gots a plan B, C & probably down to a Z-43 plan.

I can't believe any boxing fan would think this absymal production & Haymon "experimenting" with the sport we love is actually good for the sport.

The biggest gripe for boxing fans over the years has been 4 governing alphabets & several promotional/network companies not working with each other.

Haymon and this "PBC" garbage is like the worst of all those world's. A new organisation, all within the 1 promoter (Haymon) dishing out their own belts & champions.

Everybody should go back and watch the first production of any game or live show. Things are always shaky and bugs need to be worked out. A good example is the first season of Fresh Prince of Bel Air. You could see Will Smith mouthing everybody else's line waiting for his line to come up. That show went on to become a great success. Seinfeld had pedestrian ratings it's first couple of years. Ever seen the first couple shows of Sports Center? Cringeworthy.

Al is a former concert promoter and TV producer. I'm pretty sure certain things he did were product tested and scored well. I'm also sure they saw the things the should improve on or her rid of. The biggest problem is that Molina didn't come to fight. Ultimately the fights will determine if this will be a success or not, not the production.

Thurman/Guerrero was good, everything else was bad. And oh boy @ the low res "matrix style" cameras...

That's why I couldn't buy into the hoopla that others are trying to spread with PBC. I care about the things that matter, the meat and potatoes - the fights. Thurman/Guerrero delivered. Literally every other thing involving this card was so over the top and corny that even as a boxing fan, I won't be tuning in much, as Thurman can't fight on every show and I really don't care about the remaining megalomaniacs in Haymon's stable.

I've heard the Will Smith thing numerous times & I always forget to look into, but it seems hilarious & I wanna confirm it one day lol. Definitely bout to do a Fresh Prince marathon. Been years since I've watched it.

And yea you're probably right. That seemed like a fun fight & John not showing up for the fight made the shows "mistakes" even more glaring I feel. If Adrien & John had went at it than no one woulda been thinking as much about ring walks or guys not being announced as champions.

That's the problem. Haymon is trying to turn boxing into "show". It's not a show it is a sport. A legitimate sport. A sport in which a fighter can run away the whole fight and jab. And on top of that be a champion because he is so good at the craft. Show comes with the sport, not the other way around.
You can't force casual fans to like boxing if they don't like the sport of boxing itself. To watch and enjoy boxing you have to appreciate the different aspects of it. The defense, movement, strategy. Casual fans will always just want to see two people smash their brains out. This whole thing is going down to their level.

The guy who started this topic asked for the WBA belt ... that sums up his intelligence right there. You are upset because there aren't any titles? I can't get over how stupid you must be. I hope you are some stooge that works for the scum ABCs. Because if you're a normal boxing fans who feels so passionately about titles, you haven't been paying attention.

Also, fornicate ring announcers and all that other dumb shit. Get in the ring and fight. However, I know this will be changed as the average human needs to be hyped up before they watch violence.

I wasn't a big fan of the first show, but it was the first show. I think that Leonard and Albert will be replaced and fighters will be given more freedom in the future.

So what have you been saying as HBO has preached "aggression wins rounds" for years?

I disagree, boxing is very much a show. It's the events business. And that PC show sucked. They tried to do tried & tested aspects different, just for the sake of it, such as not having a ring announcer. The other problem, and the main issue for me, is shows sell best when the best face the best, no better example than Mayweather vs Pacquiao. They got their in the end by brakign through all kinds of contractual, promotional & network barriers. fornicate Haymon, he's a slimey bastard who's built/is building a big barrier right down the middle of the sport. Fans shouldn't stand for it.

I'm sure Al isn't cruising through our forum. Leonard's mind isn't sharp enough to keep up with the action in a fight. He praised Molina for standing in front of Broner for 6 rounds, then he suddenly switched in the last three rounds. Albert has the voice, but he just can't handle a two man crew anymore. It's either they insert a young energetic 3rd man or they'll have to axe the team.

Okay, I agree. But the question I keep asking is "which power player in boxing isn't a slimy bastard who built/building a barrier down the middle of the sport"?

You're singling out Haymon when the rest of the sport is doing the exact same thing.

I could care less what they try to do with titles.I know who the champs of each division are.
All I want to do is watch boxing.I got to see a good fight in Thurman and Guerrero for free.

I was happy.

I think alot of the guys "doing the same thing" ended up where they are through a more natural path and there seems a sense in the air people are starting to realise that coming together to umbrella the sport is in not only the sports best interest, but the people involved. Such as the rumblings that 3 of the 4 ABC's are going to amalgamate.

Infact i'd love the above to happen, with them freezing out Haymon. Give fighters the choice, fight for 1 world title, or sign up exclusively to Premier Boxing League or whatever Haymon's crap is called.

I personally wouldn't say bringing boxing back so all of the public can see it to give it more exposure is something that sucks.

Yes, there are improvements that can be made, but entertaining fights is what will bring the interest, not a fancy show imo. I personally get impatient with the long drawn out bs that goes on with ring entrances, and want them to get down to business. They can try to please most, but nothing they do will please everyone.

We finally get free boxing on regular TV and people complain about it, lol.

I thought the card and everything else was well put together, who cares about Ring Walks with your crew? Who cares about traditional announcers and whatnot? All the boxing fan truly cares about or should is the combatants and how the fight plays out, Broner easily beat Molina because dude has no skills whatsoever, it was a total mismatch and meant to make AB look good.

The Thurman vs Guerrero fight was only good because Keith was bringing it and Robert wasn't able to do much, he did get him to the ropes but was mostly ineffective.

I wasn't impressed by Molina or Guerrero, I think the future cards will be better. We cannot write off this series yet because we have yet to see how the rest of the bouts are going to play out.

Anyone else thinking any other way is really just looking for a reason to hate IMHO.

Besides a belt what do the ABC's have to offer? I ain't never seen a belt buy a house or car or put food on the table. A belt or a $1.5 mil payday? I think we all know the answer to that. It is called PRIZE fighting.

Do you always ? Who is a real champion, Stevenson or Kovalev ? Who is in cruiserweight ? Light welter ?

In any case, even when it is clear, most of casual fans don't know who that is, and Haymon is hiding his fighters from real champions, like Quillin from GGG.

There will be some growing pains but I enjoyed the show. The first bout wasn't scintillating for sure but Thurman vs Guerrero was fun to watch. I'm looking forward to the upcoming shows including the Spike TV show this Friday the 13th.

How? Fighters pay the ABC organization sanctioning fees. How will they offer competition? They can't sign fighters. They can't promote fights. They can't determine who champions are unless they fix fights.

Because fighters aspire to be world champions from childhood. You think it's easy to get hold of Alis WBC heavyweight world title? Being a world champion is steeped in history. Everyone wants to be one, hence the competition. Nobody wants to the Al Haymon exclusive premier league champion.

The show had its ups and downs and I guess over all was disappointing. I definitely didn't like the pro-wrestling entrance either.

The part I enjoyed the most though was when SRL said "Broner is telegraphing his puches".

I thought to myself, you're Sugar Ray Leonard, I would guess everyone you watch is telegraphing their punches. Not so much for me though :)
