"The telecast earned a 2.7 overnight from 9-11 PM ET, which according to NBC was the highest for any sporting event during the time period. Keep in mind that two-hour window also included the Duke/North Carolina college basketball game on ESPN. The overnight peaked at a 3.0 from 10:30-11 PM."
Beating a huge rivalry game is impressive.

I think the PBC series is on the right path. With those ratings, sponsors and advertisers will follow.

Looks like boxing powered NBC to a ratings win on Saturday.
If that is the case, it is very good news for the PBS series and boxing in general.

I'm so glad that the ratings went out the roof, people are so quick to hate and be unappreciative of what Haymon is trying to do simply because he is aligned with Floyd or because he is black/African American.
I think this is a valiant effort on Haymon's part and as the competition improves we will see better fights and better ratings and outcome, it is our time to relish the moment of having our favorite sport back on regular TV for free, not only does it give the boxers more exposure it gives the public a chance to know someone else besides Floyd, Manny, Oscar, Tyson, Jones and Hopkins as boxers thus ensuring longevity in this sport.
Boxing isn't dead and will live forever and we have Al Haymon to thank for that, if we left this to the likes of HBO, Top Rank and Showtime then we'd have to continue to pay high and outrageous premiums just to see these fighters who have yet to finish developing their skills.
When I was a kid they had free boxing on ABC Wide World of Sports and we got to see all of the greats of that time for free and we even got to see some unknowns develop and become household names.

Agreed. Boxing fans are probably the most color-blind fans of just about any sport. There are more nationalities/ethnicities represented in boxing than any sport I can think of, with possible exception of track & field.
From a business (promoter/boxer/manager/tv channels/trainers) pov sure. I think fans are probably MORE color/racial-oriented. I mean Bob or any promoter would start drooling over a Mexico vs PR fight. I think Boxing is probably the most mainstream sport where racial/national differences can be hyped cuz there are gonna be some people who watch it because those types of things appeal to many in some way & surely some will be negative ways.
And I definitely feel like certain color/country of origin guys get more condemned for things than other color/country of origin guys. Like it or not we are a tribe species & some peoples tribes are much smaller or based on things some of us would view as more primitive than others.
