"Tell Me True"

A) I root for my nationality.
B) I root for my colour.
C) Neither I root for the boxer I like.

This is, of course, "a secret ballot," so you can be truthful even if your answer is politically incorrect.

My answer now is "C," but that wasn't always the case. When I was a kid, I did root for The Great White Hope." at a time when Ali, Foreman, Norton, and Frazier, ALWAYS beat the Quarrys, Bobicks, and Bugners, I was convinced that whites were inferior fighters.* Did I use to be a bigot? Nothing wrong with asking yourself tough questions like that, but my honest answer is "No,' and here's why: At the same time I wanted to see more black quarterbacks, senators, governors etc. I liked, and still do like things that were/are out of the ordinary.

At the time, I rooted for a Bugner over a Frazier, while my favorite QBs or senators were often black. Now. I'd root for Jennings over Wlad because now an African American HW Champion is more rare than a caucasian one. I think it's silly to pretend race doesn't exist, at the same time, I hope everyone keeps their opinions "Elevated."

*Now I know with the fall of The Iron Curtain, that theory is bunk. It's nurture, not nature.

I'm all over the place. Sometimes I just like a particular guy cuz of their talent/style (Corrales, Trinidad, Sweet Pea, Chavez Sr., Tyson, etc & so on), but I've got a ton of high level to regular cats I like that either come from Michigan (Floyd, Dirrell brothers, Chris Byrd back in the day, Toney, Troy Rowland was big around my area for awhile, Dominque Dolton, Leandre White, J'Leon Love, even Andy Lee's strong Kronk connection gets me on his team, & etc & so on) or come from the Cuban Amateur program (Guillermo, Erislandy, Yuri & even going back into the day notable HW bust Jorge Luis Gonzales-the first boxing show I watched not in English I watched cuz Jorge was on it lol).

I cheer on the following fighters.

Floyd Mayweather--I am not black
Manny Pacquiao--I am not Phillipino
GGG--I am not eastern European
Marquez-- I am not Hispanic
Fury-- and I ain't British either

I think most fans are like me than nationalistic or racially motivated.

Román González
Naoya Inoue
Jhonny González
JMM
Terry Crawford
Carl Froch
Mikkel Kessler (who's retired)
Zolani Tete
Sergei Kovalev (won me over)
Gennady Golovkin (see above)
Tony Thompson

I'm not black, African, Mexican, Eastern European or of Latin or Asian descent.

The only top fighter I can think of whom I share an ethnicity with, I admire him but I don't root for him particularly (except when he's fighting Chris Eubank's son, then I'll cheer him like a motherfucker).

As a boxing fan, I will always support fearless ring warriors like Tony Thompson, Sergey Kovalev and Manny Pacquiao, who have never been afraid to fight anyone, anywhere, anytime.

And I will never support pampered stay-at-home head-butting prima donnas like Andre Ward, even if people call me a racist.

As a white British guy I can't say there are many fighters here who I'm particularly big fans of. I like fighters I like usually due to them not getting the OTT hype and not spending years to prepare to fight someone of note.

I think a lot of it has to do with the fact I don't need to hear how good someone is from the TV or promoter. For example hearing how good Paul Butler apparently was without him having proven anything turned me off him...

You think you've got problems. The best white American fighter is Ronda Rousey. :bag:
