Former light welter world undefeated champ and very interesting character Terry Marsh is now competing in Chessboxing; a sport that oddly combines chess and boxing.

I don't know much about it but I hear you can either win by KO in boxing or check mate in chess.

Not quite sure how it works, as I imagine top boxers could just walk in and KO the other opponent regardless of any chess.

Anyway Marsh is 57 but looks fit and still pretty useful I'm sure and I remember he was rather bright too. Here he is competing against a 28 yr old.Not sure whether he's allowed to bring his shooter LOL

I heard about Chessboxing years ago, although have never actually watched any.

I doubt there's too many boxers that are good chess players, but imagine facing Lennox Lewis or the Klitschkos

David Haye was due to take part but he had to pull out after injuring his bishop.

It would be interesting to see how this would work on a highest level. On a lower level strong chess player with good defensive boxing ability must have a big advantage. All he needs is to survive boxing rounds and win the chess match.

I just found one of Lennox Lewis chess games. Very disappointing, entry level chess. He would not even qualify to participate in chess boxing match which has requirement of minimum 1600 Elo rating. No wonder he refused to play against Wlad. I have not seen Wlads games but it cant be that bad.

On some John Inverdale fronted BBC show of the noughties he played Steve Davis at speed chess and lost his queen in about 5 moves. They cut away before we saw him bludgeoned.

Lawson's supposed to be quite a good player so no disgrace to lose to him but Lennox' opening was just plain daft

Lawson's supposed to be quite a good player so no disgrace to lose to him but Lennox' opening was just plain daft

Its not about loosing, its about the quality. Opening was beyond belief. Then he could not see even the most obvious threats. It was under 1000 level play. Funny thing is that in interview he brags about been a chess player and therefore smart. If you play like that in my part of the world you would be barred from playing forever.

I found Klitschko bros chess match. They are just as bad.

You have to have some experience as a boxer, and a minimum chess ranking to compete, though I don't know the details.

I genuinely just laughed out loud at Lennox's opening 3 moves. Had he actually ever played before?
