I've never seen this Achondo in action but for some reason I keep getting flashes of Barrera v Lloyd when I think of this fight. I hope it turns out to be much more competitive.

It's not often you get a SN fighter travelling like this, must be a nice payday for Rees.

Rees hasn't fought anywhere near the level of opponent that Anchondo is. However Rees is unbeaten, so we don't know his limitations.

That's true. It looks a walkover for Anchondo, a charismatic fighter with a high knockout ratio. But when they stepped him up against a couple of washed-up Colombians, Roque Cassani and Ever Beleno, he struggled. His best is win is over "Goyo" Vargas who must be older than Ena Sharples.
He's also very cut prone.
This is not mission impossible for Rees if he really fancies it and can raise his game. It's the kind of fight I would fancy Michael Gomez to win, for example.

Dunno Bennie, Vargas has been around a while but I watched him on CH5 beating Gary Balleto and he still looked very good to me. A few weeks later he gets floored and beaten out of sight by Achondo.

Rees looks in deep water here.

A few years ago Sports Network would have got this fight on one of thier bills in Wales they have been outbidden by the newcomers of Golden Boy
promotions. I think it suggests that Warren no longer has a very good relationship with the WBO, I remember a time when any British fighter with Sports Network would got a shot at a WBO title as long as they remained unbeaten usually at home against a gimmie fighter. Now Warren can't even get Ricky Hatton a shot. Over the last few years Warren relations with the WBO have cooled and thats why he is giving the fans WBU shows. Rees I think may have a chance

Here's a report of Anchondo v Vargas, from braggingrightcorner.com

With the ring of the first bell Anchondo began moving in and out, left and right on Vargas. Anchondo slowly began landing sharp shots and took the first couple of rounds. Vargas remained patient, still trying to find his rhythm against the up and down bouncing style of Anchondo. Anchondo's shots weren't hurting Vargas but they were sharp and piercing blows that definitely seemed to muster the veteran's respect. Anchondo continued the clinic and each round started to look the same. Anchondo would dart in and out as he pleased, landing with crisp combinations while Vargas suffered to land even the occasional left hook or right hand.

Vargas attempted to turn up the pressure in round 6 but was caught with a stinging right hand that brought him to his knees. Vargas complained the shot was delivered behind his head and fought on. Many felt that as the fight wore on Vargas would wear Anchondo down, but this wasn't to be the case as Anchondo's confidence only grew. The closing rounds were even worse for Vargas, he was nailed with quick blows, while Anchondo boxed his way away from any danger that Gregorio might have to offer. Round 10 ended and the scores read 110-89, 98-91, 97-92 all for Mighty Mike. It was hard watching Vargas get dominated like that, but you must take your hat off to Anchondo. He rose to the occasion and passed his biggest test to date.

Anchondo's future looks very bright for the moment. His win surprised many, with several fans talking about his versatility, footwork, and hand speed. It looks from this loss that Goyo Vargas' career is heading towards its close but we also have an excellent fighter in Mike Anchondo to look forward to in the future. I'd say that's a fair trade off.

He was all of 18 when they stepped him up, though. Anchondo has piled in 19 rounds in the last 12 months, Rees has come through just 1. Anchondo for me, unless the price on Rees is unmissable.

Yes, Rees hasn't fought since last June. I'm being hard on Anchondo because American fighters are overrated in my opinion, especially by us Brits. I look at Anchondo's record and think, yeah, he's good, but he's not that good. A British fighter with real grit and ambition could go over there and lick him. Not sure if Rees is that British fighter.

Is this for the main title (not an interim) it says on BBC Wales Teletext that it is, also fightnews are no longer mentioning it as an interim title.

True about Goyo Vargas being washed up, but in Vargas' fight before Anchondo he wiped the floor with Gary Balleto, a popular New England fighter with only one loss and most of his wins via KO.

Anchondo looks pretty solid, so Rees had better be on his game come fight time.

Obviously the title is totally irrelevent since the WBO is not a recognized world title.

But I do however, still have a lot of interest in this matchup, any news as to whether it will be televised over here?
