Pascal won two rounds at most (I gave him one), was officially dropped for the first time as a pro, and ended the fight staggering from one corner of the ring to the other before bending over and taking punches without defending himself.

I don't think Pascal gave Kovalev that much trouble, though admittedly he had some good moments, and it was a fine stoppage in my opinion.

Stevenson needs Kovalev more than Kovalev needs Stevenson at this point, Kovalev is front page news while Stevenson is an advertisement in the centre pages of the classified section as far as I'm concerned.
Stevenson is in a tricky spot, yes he could fight Pascal but before and after the fight inevitably the question most people will ask him will be related to Sergey Kovalev.

Adonis seems to be making very good money for fighting relatively weak opposition though, and he seems content with that. I don't think he needs Sergey financially but in my view he's lost ample respect for his recent string of opposition and departure from HBO when a Kovalev fight seemed imminent, and fighting Kovalev, who I think is now generally considered 'the man' of the division based on merit, is by far the best way to redress that.

I agree with that to a certain extent in terms of the money he maybe earning and the lower level quality of opposition.
But he's not hot like Kovalev and I'd say Stevenson's bouts are not necessarily even must see fights whereas Kovalev's are.
Sure Adonis can go and fight any Tom Dick or Harry and get paid fairly well but no ones going to care and eventually he'll fall off the potential hot fight list sooner rather than later.

Kovalev just needs to beat remaining top LHWs: Beterbiev, Chilemba, Oosthuizen, Alvarez, Mohammedi, and Stevenson will have nobody to fight.

I underestimated Kovalev prior to Hopkins because I had never seen him in with world class competition. The truth is Kovalev is a scary dude and I don't even think Ward could handle him if he were to move up to LHW. That is one scary MOFO with power in both hands and good boxing skill, there something about a intelligent puncher like Kovalev with that kind range that makes me think he's going to be on top for a long time unless he get clipped by a big puncher (which is always possible at the higher weight classes), I just don't see him losing any time soon.

Kovalev just systematically breaks guys down and seems to be able to hurt guys with every punch he throws. Even his jab is scary, he times it very well and he stops guys in their tracks with it and sets himself up perfectly for power shots. Very, very dangerous fighter for anyone. The only thing is Kovalev has some leaks in his defense which will always give a big puncher a chance, but he shows to have a pretty good chin as well and when I have seen him get hit with big shots he's stayed composed and got back to business. I hope Stevenson takes the fight agianst Kovalev, I think Kovalev has Stevenson out of there in under 6 rounds.

I am surprised that people are not demanding him to go up and fight Huck and Lebedev instead of enjoying the well deserved ruling and earning some good money in his weight class.

How much did Kovalev get paid his last two fights and how much did Stevenson get paid his last two fights? When I say last two fights in including his upcoming fight against Fonfara.

I used to think Stevenson could take Kovalev, but since Sergey's beating of Hopkins & now Pascal, I think Kovalev takes it convincingly.

Kovalev is terrifying prospect, because he is not buzzsaw type KO artist, just a methodical fighter who doesn't lose power as the fight goes on & will walk his opponents down if necessary & doesn't seem to be fazed by anything.

I'll be surprised if any of the current crop of top 175lbers could live with him.

Did Stevenson suddenly grow at 36 or you saw him wearing high heels ? He is short for the division. I am not saying that it matters though, because he got a long reach which is more important.

Yeah, Kovalev was never in trouble. He felt some shots to be sure, but never "hurt" in the sense of being in real danger.

Adonis is as athletic or more so than Pascal. And a little better skill-wise.

And, oh yeah, he is a southpaw.

What do you mean by athletic? Stevenson isn't as fast or explosive as Pascal in my view and he's more conventional and I suspect easier to time.

No doubt he hits harder than Pascal, but I also believe that he's less durable.

I mean Adonis will move enough to cause the same (or more) distance problems for Sergei that Pascal did at times last night.

I mean that he will be able to use movement and his physicality to present a bit of a defensive and counterpunching puzzle that Kovalev will have to solve.

Only this time, Sergei will be trying to solve it against a guy in the opposite stance who has lights out punching power.

Like I said, a much closer mach than I thought tho I still favor Kovalev. But Adonis just became an extremely live dog.

I think it's looking like a less close fight, meself. Stevenson might score a knockout, he hits like a mule, but I doubt he'd absorb half the shellacking Pascal stood up to.

THing is, his chances of scoring a knockout didn't go up after last night. They remained the same. IMO what happened was any chance he had of surviving a dogfight or being able to out-speed Kovalev disappeared.

Well, I would be remiss in not reminding you Stevenson got up off the canvas against Fonfara who, shortcomings or not, has very decent power.

Stevenson can take a punch.

Only Ward stands a chance and that would be to fight him the same way he did Chad Dawson.

Leads rights to the body and head, dirty headbutts, clinching, etc...

But again...Kovalev isn't worth the trouble too little pay. Very low compensation.

He punches too hard for a measley 2million dollar payday.

Whats this thumbs up so you must have seen my 8th round prediction for Kovalev D

I've always said I pick Sergey over Adonis and still believe that to be the case

But I can understand those that say the Pascal fight show he is beatable.
Not beatable by Pascal, but beatable none the less

Pascal had success, Pascal got to him and showed he could be countered and countered cleanly in that 5th and 6th round.
Now Sergey has a bloody good chin and walked through them, but when some people land cleanly it doesn't matter how good your chin is
2 of those people are Sergey himself and Adonis Stevenson.

Stevenson isn't as good as Sergey over all, but he is as good as Pascal and hits a hell of a lot harder.
If Stevenson can land some of the shots Pascal did last night, there's no reason he can't take a shock win.

There's a few if's in there, one of them being he doesn't get clocked with big shots himself. but I wouldn't count Stevenson out yet.
