Personally think Kovalev should be above Golovkin in those ratings

Yes. I like them both, but Kovalev has a somewhat better resume.Marlo Stanfield wrote:Personally think Kovalev should be above Golovkin in those ratings

Both should definitely be above Froch, Marquez and Bradley (why is this guy in top 15 anyway ?)Marlo Stanfield wrote:Personally think Kovalev should be above Golovkin in those ratings
Re: Sergey Kovalev is now in The Ring top ten P4P
I agree that Kovalev should be above Froch at this point. But if you think that Golovkin with his win over Daniel Geale belongs above JMM, who KO'd Pacquiao, and Bradley, who decisioned Marquez, then it almost seems like you have an extremely heavy eastern European bias and/or you don't know much about boxing. If not Pacquiao, is there anyone Marquez could KO for you to rank him above a European fighter? What if he KO'd Whitaker, JCC, Duran, Hearns, SRL, or SRR? Or would that still not be enough because none of them are European? In 2012, JMM was considered #3 p4p, there was a pretty strong argument for Pacquiao being #1 p4p, and Marquez KO'd him. How do you rank a fighter who has never even fought anyone better than Daniel Geale ahead of Marquez?ikorolev wrote:Both should definitely be above Froch, Marquez and Bradley (why is this guy in top 15 anyway ?)Marlo Stanfield wrote:Personally think Kovalev should be above Golovkin in those ratings

No, I am just considering how fighters look now and not a few years ago. JMM's and Tim's last performances were not impressive. I think that old resume records are irrelevant for a CURRENT p4p list.Lackeos wrote:I agree that Kovalev should be above Froch at this point. Re: Sergey Kovalev is now in The Ring top ten P4P
Kovalev has wins over 4 world champions during 2013-2015:
Cleverly
Hopkins
Pascal
Campillo
Golovkin has a win over 2 world champions, just 1 during 2013-2015:
Daniel Geale
Kassim Ouma
I'm a fan of Golovkin, but clearly Kovalev deserves a higher P4P ranking because of quality of opposition.

Yes, Kovalev had better opposition and power wise he is a monster the same way as Golovkin, but Golovkin is a better boxer.Freedom2013 wrote:Kovalev has wins over 4 world champions during 2013-2015:

Kovalev gets off balance A LOT, while Golovkin is always in control of his body. Kovalev's shot selection is limited, for example he doesn't use uppercuts. Kovalev's chin is still a big suspect.
So, if you base on resume, then Kovalev is higher, but if you base on your perception of who a better fighter is, then who would you prefer ?
