Been announced that Japanese teenage Kosei Tanaka will fight Julian Yedras for the WBO Minimumweight title of May 30th. Had been rumoured for weeks but was announced today.

Yedras isn't a great opponent but he's only been beaten y the very good Buitrago so a chance to compare Kosei to Buitrago if nothing else...

... Oh and if Kosei wins he'll beat Naoya Inoue's Japanese record for fewest fights to win a world title...

If you want to see what the fuss is about you really ought to see his fight with Ryuji Hara.

No it's not, Takayama vacated it ahead of his announced bout with Sakkreerin Jr. As a result the #1 & #2 ranked WBO fighters will fight for it.

The plan seems to be for a reunification if Tanaka wins and Takayama can't get a Budler bout.

Tanaka has looked the goods so far and Mr Hatanaka has always been clear in his intentions of racing his young fighter to the top. Whilst I wouldn't say Yedras will be a push over he shouldn't really test Tanaka, who in fact probably beat a better fighter in Hara. However this will be a great test of the kid's nerves and should prepare him for bigger bouts.

It seems they had tried to get Wanheng in to the ring instead, for a WBC title fight, but that fell apart leading to this bout instead.

If you've not seen much of Tanaka Matt McGrain did a fantastic piece on him for boxing.com and there is footage of all his professional bouts out there. He really does look to be something a bit special and his straight right hand down the pipe is a wonderful weapon that will take him a long way.
