Poor Andre Ward, even if the tourney bring him to the P4P status, he should wished it never happen. I think the tournament was bad and the reason is quite simple. It clean out the division for 5 years and maybe more. At the time we where talking about the deepest division and now we have a clear no 1 who rules on a division where the no 2 guy is fighting because we all know no body can beat no 1. Now Andre will be force to go at light heavy to make money.

Thats one of the underappreciated negative byproducts with boxing tournaments at the elite level. I can only think of two bigger top tier tournaments (more than 4 boxers) & thats the Super Six & the HBO HW tournament in the 80's (edit: actually I think there was another tournament back when Ali lost his title too iirc). With these type of tournaments you crown "the champion" obviously. You also create a new top ten that is filled with guys the champion has already beaten or guys who are getting pushing to the front of the line quicker.

I enjoy bigger tournaments at the lower levels more then the higher levels for these reasons.

fair enough, but you understood what i meant , Bika and Johnson were additions.

Ward could've gone straight in after the tournament against the recognised #2 in the division, in Bute, but decided to let Froch have that fight. If he was active he could've found opponents and build up a bunch of title defences and raised his profile. There are lots of ways Ward could've capitalised on his tournament victory, but for whatever reason, didn't. Lets not forget Froch lost that fight and seemed to go on and build a decent career for himself. It was a great tournament and great platform to build from. Right now there are plenty of challengers out there, most of which are likely to be squaring off against each other this year (Both Dirrells vs Degale/ Groves). Oh, and really, if there are no fights out there for you, moving up 7lb to find quality opposition shouldn't really be considered all that much of a monumental task.

And i obviously count the added guys!!

Ya maybe he could but the way he went threw the tourney put an en on what is the main attraction in boxing. Can he lost the fight and nobody in the top 10 SMW would of make him lost. So what s the point?
