One of the downsides of the current trend of having Matchroom 'extravanganzas' is that a good European title fight can be lost among all the hoo haa surrounding the 'big' fight.

I thought that the McDonnell fight, topping the bill on a mid week night in a local much smaller venue, would have generated much more of an atmosphere, and dare I say, much more interest among the boxing public.

We're losing the significance of British and European title fights because there're being used as padding before the main event. I don't know, for example, if Mcdonnell would have earned more last night, than if he was fighting in Doncaster on a Thursday night say on BBC or ITV if they were interested in those type of events??

I suppose that the Sheffield show was a financial success, and for most in the business, that's what counts, but to me it was a bit like THE VOICE or STRICTLY COME DANCING -basically a bit of a circus. The only thing I'll remember about it in a few days will be Khominsky's fantastic knockout . Maybe if Etches spent less time thinking about his daft tattoos ( which will look really cute when he's lying on a beach in Benidorm in his 50's) he might learn to respect a proven puncher!!

The fact is itv and bbc aren't interested in those fights, I know European fights used to be the main event on old ffns but if you don't have these fights on the type of card we had last night then what are you left with. Last night show was missing a British title fight imo to make the card better, European and british titles are unlikely to headline a sky show on it's own nowdays more likely allegedly has yhe odd ffn type show of one British/European fight headling a small hall with nothing else of note on the card.I get your point that good career defining moments can be overshadowed snd a bit lost on an arena undercard through.

I had McDonnell winning 118-111 but it wasn't the domination it seemed,don't get me wrong Gavin has done brilliant to win British and European titles this early in his career and with little experience but without sounding harsh he seems like a poor mans Jamie,hes got a great engine but doesn't hit hard and isn't that accurate

He has got heart though and knows how to grind things out,Yegorov had his moments though but just could sustain them

Why did Galahad give the European up ?

He's not moved on to World Level and not fought since September with nothing lined up.

He would probably beat Gavin comfortably IMO.

Gavin McDonnell pretty average to me, agree about the poor man's Jamie comment. Some nice matchmaking has got him those belts and he's beat what's been put in front of him but it's hard to say he's the best at the weight in Europe, just got the best promoter to manoeuvre him into position. You can see what's happening - Hearn wants both McDonnells to have good belts so he can keep the good crowds up in Sheffield selling two champion brothers.

McDonnells opponenet was very poor for a European title fight.

The fact it was a good competitive fights shows McDonnell's level more than anything in my opinion.
