Mitchell Smith vs Antonio Horvatic

Just watching the Ovill McKenzie bill from the other night and this KO is my favourite so far this year.

Perhaps a bit brutal that the first probably KO'D him, the second knocked his gumshield out and the third and fourth sent him to the canvas absolutely rigid.

One of those ones where my first thought was I hope that kids OK. But when he got up I thought that was a peach of a finish

Brutal KO and reminiscent of Gatti-Gamache, but the opponent being so poor makes it less notable to me.

All things considered I preferred Khomitsky's stoppage of Etches.

Fair point. But it was a cracking stoppage.

I was thinking Khomitsky but yeah, Tete's was better.

Tete's stoppage was excellent and a fitting way to cap a nearly flawless performance. Uppercuts are underutilized today in my opinion.

Outclassing the homeboy then putting him on his face with a classically delivered one-shot finish in a world title fight is what KO's of the year are made of, not the outcomes of 100-1 mismatches with the deck stacked heavily in favour of someone.

The quality of the fight as a match & the standing of both participants has a massive bearing on declaring shite things like "Best XXXXX of the year" or you may as well just hand out awards for televised executions, which is what the OP is crowing about.

... On the other hand Tete vs Butler was a bit like a televised execution, just not the way it was supposed to go... Which makes it even sweeter

The Adam Etches knockout was a very good punch, Mitchell Smiths was a really good combination.

I agree, Terry - the Marquez punch was on for the ages, one of the most impressive and dramatic KO's was (of course) from Hearns, versus Schuler - Tommy's right hand was like a missile and would have surely knocked out 90% of any middleweights who ever fought.
