Most realistic opponent for Kell Brook?

With Kell Brook making a successful first defence of his IBF Welterweight World title against mandatory Jo Jo Dan of Romania with a fourth round corner retirement. The question now is who is next for Kell Brook.

There is obviously talk of Amir Khan with his big name status having being a former World title holder down at Light-Welterweight and their previous history. But there is also Juan Manuel Marquez, Brandon Rios and Victor Ortiz amongst others being banded around for Brook's second defence of his title so the questions being gentlemen.

1: Ideally who do you think Brook should face?
2: Realistic who might it end up being instead?

1. Amir Khan

2. Frankie Gavin

Would love to see Brook v Khan next but it doesn't look like Amir wants it. Can't see it being Gavin, surely he needs a couple more wins before he can be put in with Brook. From what Eddies been saying I think he wants Marquez, a big name that will sell tickets and Kell would probably win at this stage of Marquez career. Thurman is a bit of a risky fight, not really sure how good he is yet. I expect it to be Marquez but apparently he wants big money so if Eddie can't make the fight then I think it will be Rios.

Don't think Marquez will want to know.Thurman in the states is a possibility?

Marquez is vulnerable at this point, and a big name. It's certainly worth looking into.
Thurman is a good fight, a fight fan's fight I'd love to see that. That one should be built up to because they are gonna stay undefeated for awhile yet, even though they are both still improving and tightening their games.
Kahn would be a good fight too, explosive.
Bradley is another good test, and he doesn't have a big punch so that favors the bigger stronger Brook.

I'm just glad to see Kell back, he is easy to root for.

Any of the fighters mentioned in the thread so far (bar Gavin) would do for me. Top tier fights would be Marquez, Rios, Khan and then secondary would be Ortiz but i think that would be an easy sell over here.

I think Thurman is going to get found out soon enough so would love Brook to be the one who gets to him first as that would really throw him up to the top table. I think he will be more protected than a British prospect for the next year or so!

I think Guerrero is a real possibility. Another southpaw who looks like he's not quite up to it in this division. Will probably be cheap as well coming off the back of a few losses. Also perfect timing for Marquez. Bradley is a strange one, can't really punch but tough and is a risk for me.

In fact, I see Brook beating everyone bar Mayweather, Pacquaio, Khan and Thurman.

Please not Gavin.

And possibly Bradley, which is 50/50.

Would love Khan, Marquez, Bradley or Thurman.
Realistically we will probably see either Rios or Ortiz.
Of which Rios is far more credible IMO (since Ortiz was ko'd by a man who was subsequently schooled by Khan)

I fully expect to see Brook vs Rios this summer.

Rios would be a great bout, both are very heavy handed and Kelly could shine, walk Branden into punches etc. I still think Khan would be too fast and know too much for Brook.

If Khan was as confident we would all find out :TU:

I understand how partisan you are pugilist and Kell is doing really well, there's no way though that Jo Jo Dan is a bona fide world standard opponent - I'd say Salita was a level or 2 above him. Brook has had 2 bouts at title level (including Jo Jo) Khan has far more experience and has wide recognition in the USA, he can look for a big Vegas bout and even if he lost there would still be the Brook bout available.

Good points Palooka.

Khan is playing a dangerous game waiting for a 'big fight' meaning he could possibly lose out on fighting Brook and a massive payday but I don't think he is ducking Brook out of fear of defeat, he's just waiting for the right time.

Khan's probably loving the attention he's getting right now and free press. His name is everywhere and he hasn't even got an opponent lined up. If anything, Brook shouting Khan's name from the rafters constantly, shows who is the bigger name.

I'm going to go with Berto.

Not interested in Rios one bit but pretty sure he will be next. Easy to make and sure Eddie will sell it on Brandons past glories at LW. Dreadful fight though.

Why not Collazo? Good yard stick for a Khan fight. Bradley would be a good fight too.

Salita was worse than terrible. He would not have made the uk top 10 light welter at the time

ideally onto Amir Khan for a summer stadium show now, alternatively Marquez, Thurman or Rios...

No way Salita was a level or two above Dan. Dan isn't world class but he clearly deserved the win in his first fight with then unbeaten and probably top 20 Aydin (hence the forced rematch) and he beat Bizier twice, who while not great was an international level amateur who is better than anyone Salita beat in my view. Salita's record is very heavily padded and even then he struggled with several mediocre opponents, and I suspect that he would've clearly lost to Dan had they fought.

I reckon they'll go with Rios,a former world champ whose known in the US but more importantly has a style made for Brook

Brandon looked great in the Alvarado rubber match but who knows what would have happened if Mike wasnt shot and it went some rounds

Rios did set a difficult pace to maintain early on. Think we mentioned it at the time. Brook stops him surely at this point. Too fresh.

I agree,Brook would be too fresh and Rios would be too battle worn and I think Kell would bust him up pretty bad,Brandon is a game fighter but if he wasn't KO'd then I expect someone would stop the beating

Brook shows Pacquiao how to deal with a tough guy whose skillset is well below his, then if he was to KO Maidana surely both Floyd and Manny will sit up and take notice

We all do... But someone probably was asleep when that fight was on. I wouldn't mind seeing Brandon Rios going in with Kell Brook actually. He has a strong chin and a massive of balls as well and would talk a lot of smack to get under Brook's skin. So it would be interesting to see how Brook deals with a smack talker who is a preTty fearless dude in the ring.

Ideally - wait 6 month and take the winner of pac vs Mayweather in a wembley show entitled "get it right up yi amir" followed by 3 years of not giving Khan the shot because he hasn't been in with big names like Brook has

Realistically - Josesito Lopez is ranked 14th by the IBF, I'm sure Eddie will be able to sell that to the fans.....

it wont be anyone tough.

Marquez is an old man past it now, so is probably the preferred choice.

There will be minimal risk until there's a big payday.
