My first actual topic that I've initiated...apologies if commonly covered!
Am becoming greatly fed up with these catchments weights at the highest levels of boxing!
The biggest piss take of these being the upcoming Garcia v Peterson fight they are both light welter champions in their own right yet neither Title is on the line!
Surely this wrong!?!?

It is a big shame that the Garcia fight isn't a straight up unification yeah

If you're not both champions in the same weight class I have no issues with "catchweight", "above the limit" or "contracted weight" fights. But as champions in the same division it's a piss take that they can't meet at 140

Its a disgrace. Just another way for an "A side" jerk to get an unfair advantage. Organizations should never sanction it.

People can say "who cares about titles when we have a great fight" which is true to a point but no one would be calling for this fight if Peterson wasn't a champ as after all Peterson was done in a couple of rounds by Matthysse who in turn was dominated by Garcia

Plus its now only 10 rounds,if neither guy thinks its about titles then fair enough but vacate already,instead of the loser continuing to defend his title after this

Titles have been so corrupted & the term "world champion" has become so saturated that I don't care about abc belts anymore. I haven't for a long time. I care who my opinion of who's the champion is & some other indie ranking orgs, but today my opinion of who's the champion is a much more fluid thing than a lineal thing. Like most people would tell you that Miguel is the 160lb champion. And he is the lineal champ & that still holds value to many. It doesn't to me. GGG is THE champ at 160lb in my eyes.

As for catchweight fights I find all the weights an arbitrary thing. Why is the division 147lbs, why not 150lbs? Why can you have a 210lb guy fight a 300lb guy & they are in the same division its cool, but a 176lb guy fighting a 201lb guy would be a problem in most commissioned regions. Why are two guys making these arbitrary weights & fighting for one of four "world" championship belts. If the abc belt orgs can make up arbitrary weights, belts & rankings why can't fighters say f#ck it & make their own weight decisions? I think fighters realizing their power is an important part of getting rid of all these abc belt guys.

I wanna see the top guys in any division fight. This fight is between the top 2 or top 3 guys around this weight division. Why would abc belts matter? If you put value on that fair enough, but to some of us just seeing highly ranked guys, as ranked by indie ranking groups, fight is a big deal. F#ck corrupt abc belts.

I think this is where the networks should step in an refuse to broadcast it. They can have some influence on these types of fights. Showtime is apparently refusing to broadcast Khan vs Algieri, and rightfully so.

I could summarize ReggieDiggs all posts with with three points:

1. Everything is more or less broken in boxing.
2. Instead of trying to fix it lets wreck it completely.
3. Haymon is the man to do it.

1. I wouldn't say this. We (all of us) tend to focus on the things wrong with boxing & under appreciate the things great about it far too often. The business of boxing is corrupt as all hell. But throw two guys in the ring fighting for nothing or $120M & its a compelling, exciting & amazing thing to witness. The competitiveness, the heart, the struggle. All that sorta sh!t is great.

2. I don't even know what this means. I think the biggest problems in boxing are abc belt orgs & the power promoters have. Right now they have far too much influence & that needs to change before things get better in the sport of boxing. If there were 4 Super Bowls in pro football you'd say there was a problem, but we've accepted boxings problems as the unchangeable reality using the logic "it could be worse".

You can't just fix abc belt orgs web of corruption. If we can get one belt that means something &/or get rid of the abc belt orgs I'm for that. Neither of those things is gonna happen anytime soon (within 5 years, maybe within 10, best case scenario) so the sooner the wheels fall off the status quo train the sooner things will be like they used to be with a mere one "world" champion.

3. There is no debating that if there are big positive changes to boxing in the next 5-10 years they will be because of Al Haymon. Like it or not, thats the reality. Certainly the current corrupt regime won't be changing anything. I'm all for a new regime, corrupt or not, perfect or not.
