Undefeated light heavyweight and two-time Russian Olympian Artur Beterbiev (7-0, 7 KOs) will show his skills to a huge boxing viewership this afternoon on CBS when collides with former light heavyweight world champion Gabriel Campillo (25-6-1, 12 KOs) in the Stevenson-Bika co-feature in Quebec City.

“I don’t think this is a big challenge for me,” said Beterbiev, the 2014 prospect of the year. “I’m ready to face the world champions and raise the bar higher. This is just another opponent for me.”

Already holding an amateur win over WBA/IBF/WBO champion Sergey “Krusher” Kovalev, Beterbiev says he’s ready to go straight into a fight with the champ. “Why not face Kovalev? I’m ready. When I turned professional my goal was to meet the champions. He’s a champion now and I’d like to face the champions

Is he really ready for Kovalev with only 8 Pro fights??

I think Betrbiev is top-3 fighter in his division right now. He would destroy Braehmer.

Nice try Haymon. You aren't gonna protect Stevenson with Beterbiev. Kovalev vs Stevenson or GTFO. Beterbiev after.

From Kovalev side the Beterbiev victory were more due to politics than boxing!! But i think these two will be a good rivalry in the upcoming years

If Beterbiev really is as dangerous as some people think, then he doesn't bring enough reward to go with his risk. He may need to get additional big wins before he gets the Kovalev fight.

I think that Kovalev and Beterbiev are clearly #1 and 2, so one of them should get the remaining belt from Stevenson first and then they should fight each other.

Adonis is smart to go running towards a Sergey fight :yay:

That's what Haymon wants. He wants to match up Stevenson with Beterbiev, then have a rematch when Beterbiev wins, with even a possibility for a 3rd fight if Stevenson wins the 2nd. All to delay the Stevenson - Kovalev fight for as long as possible. Haymon basically wants Kovalev to get older to match him up with Beterbiev in 2 years, who then would have a good shot at beating him. You have to give Haymon credit, he knows how to run away from fights, and protect his belts.

It's not like Kovalev already destroyed Campillo. Oh wait.......

Would you defend Stevenson if he swerved Kovalev (and possibly dropped his belt) to fight Beterbiev?

Yea 20 fights into his career. Sergey fought a guy who was 8-5 in his 8th fight. Artur just destroyed a top ten, top fiveteen level guy in his.

And its not even about one fight. Artur is gonna KTFO of both these cats sooner or later & I find it kinda funny with all the hype & emotion surrounding Adonis & Sergey that its gonna eventually go down like that. I'm not one for big predictions, but this just seems so obvious this guy is on a whole other level then these guys & is only improving as he gets pro experience.

What does experience matter when you're making suggestions about what would already happen? Kovalev massacred Campillo with no more difficulty than Beterbiev did and he's significantly more proven against top opponents of various styles, not to mention that this seemed like the expected outcome (hard punching fast starter against a chinny slow starter) even for someone like me who is skeptical of Beterbiev already being a Kovalev/Stevenson beating monster.

Would you defend Stevenson if he swerved the mandated Kovalev bout (and possibly dropped his belt) to fight Beterbiev? I guess if you hype Beterbiev as a monster who is the real man at 175 doing that becomes much easier.

Yeah except that Kovalev was 27 years old and started only a year ago before his 8th fight.
Beterbiev is already 30 fighting in his 8th fight after a long amateur career. Kovalev worked his way up from the gutters fighting 7 times a year.

Yep, on that point while Sergey was 30 he had already beaten Campillo, won a title, and made multiple defenses.

Kovalev was also extremely hyped while fighting hopeless journeymen like Cedric Agnew and Blake Caparello in title fights, but proved his worth against Hopkins and Pascal. I excpect Beterbiev to do the same when he steps up. He needs a tough opponent, somebody like Bika or Chilemba in his next fight and Eleider Alvarez after.

Multiple defenses against hopeless, unworthy opponents though.

His opposition at 30 was better than Beterbiev's is and he accomplished much more by the same age. Beterbiev turned pro nearly two years later and from the start had a major promoter who could procure him opponents like Cloud and Campillo, so he should be moving more quickly than Kovalev did.

I know, and I want to see Beterbiev prove his worth like Kovalev did. He's looked good so far but he has a way to go before I conclude that Stevenson has less of a chance of beating him than beating Kovalev, let alone that Beterbiev would beat each of them.

I expect Beterbiev to brutally stop Stevenson, so people will not to see a rematch.

Prophets are never appreciated in their time :bag:

I'm just not in love with either Sergey or Adonis is the biggest thing. I think Artur KTFO of Sergey when you consider his power + what Jean Pascal was landing on him & Adonis plays too much & will get outworked & eventually KTFO. Honestly I don't see this as all that bold or risky a prediction that it needs to be slept on over the next several fights. I think the more experience Artur gets the easier he does the job.

I'll take Kovalev/Stevenson and Beterbiev/Pascal, thanks.

The problem is that PBC is targeting more casual fans who don't have a clue who Kovalev is if they're not told by the broadcast team.

It sounds like they could be knowing him soon. Sounds like Adonis vs Sergey is being lined up for Sept/Oct in Canada. Adonis is sitting til then & supposedly Sergey will be fighting some other Kathy Duva 175lber in the meantime. Just gotta get the purse bid done & figure out if we are gonna see it on HBO (if Duva wins) or Showtime/NBC/CBS or w/e else it could be shown on (if Haymon or one of his promoters win).

That's not their job. That's Main Events job. PBC is there to promote their fighters.
