Toney said he loved fighting southpaws, his sneaky right hand would have been trouble for Calzaghe, I think.

If Calzaghe doesn't stand right in front of Toney and throws in a little side to side to movement, I think his speed and workrate will be the difference here, especially in the second half, when his amazing stamina comes into play. I like Joe probably by about 3 pts.

It is not guaranteed there will be any "second half". Old Hopkins and shot RJJ both had Calzaghe on canvas in the opening round, so there is a good change Toney would keep him there.
Jirov had also excellent workrate, with better power and chin on top of that, and it "almost" worked against Toney.

if both men were in their prime, I'd say Calzaghe on points, I'd see Toney winning early on but as it dragged on Calzaghe would take control and win the fight on the scorecards

Pretty intriguing matchup. Calzaghe has a style that Toney would hate, but at the same time he would be landing lots of flush right hands on Calzaghe over the course of the fight. Not sure I see Joe lasting the distance despite his great conditioning.
Also, someone said Calzaghe's speed . . Toney at middle-super middle was very fast. I don't see Calzaghe having any advantage in handspeed here.
Toney TKO 10 in a great fight.

This fight will be won on clean connections, and it's Toney's that will be clean. Gimme the Toney from 1994 against Joe. Too much defense and accuracy. Joe may have movement and speed, but he will have to be in range to land, and it's then that he gets tagged with clean and heavy shots. Most of Joe's pitter patter shots won't land or do damage. Joe had a great engine, but he could be dropped and wobbled. Toney for me by stoppage. Workrate alone won't beat Toney.

Calzaghe wins with a rat a tat tat of combination punching for 12 rounds mainly on Toney's gloves and shoulders but with Toney eventually being denied by the rare talent of Calzaghe proving once again against a Yank that he is with out a doubt the master underdog!
