NZ Born World Champions

Correct me if im wrong but i believe there has only been two NZ Born World Champions
Torpedo Billy Murphy who won the title in 13/01/1889 as a Featherweight in San Francisco
Daniella Smith who won the first Womens IBF World welterweight title 12/11/2010 in Germany
Bob Fitzsimmons is UK born not NZ born

Thats the same situation if David Tua had won the World title
Yea we consider him from NZ but he was born in Samoa

Always contentious subject & no doubt always will remain as such
e.g. Kostya Tszyu & Vic Darchinyan Both were born elsewhere, but both kicked-off their pro career & were Oz citizens at the time

Kali Meehan Lost by SD (i think he should of won that fight) at his World title fight
He was born in NZ but allot of people consider his Australian

I believe Kali was born in Fiji - Father (Fijian & mother Kiwi)

No he was born in Auckland but Fijian Nationality however he got Australian Citizenship

I can recall brief discussion with his mother at Southport RSL club fight night, where she told me he was born in Fiji.
At the same time, he worked at promoter's Main Beach (Gold Coast) restaurant

He worked in a restaurant? very rocky balboa what did he do at the restaurant?

I've got a mate that's a personal friend of his and he was born in Auckland

I could be wrong but I think I remember Kali being interviewed and he said he was born in Fiji but was raised in NZ.
