Barrera, Taylor dominate foes!
By Francisco Salazar, William Trillo & Bret Newton at Ringside
In his first bout since his loss to Manny Pacquiao, featherweight Marco Antonio Barrera showed he is still at the elite level by stopping former world champion Paulie Ayala in round ten Saturday night at Home Depot Center in Carson, California. It was a tactical match in which Barrera (58-4, 40 KOs) outboxed, outslugged and outmaneuvered Ayala (35-3, 12 KOs) to easily win every round. Ayala was simply unable to apply the type of pressure that made him successful in his previous fights. Barrera dropped Ayala twice in round eight and again in round ten prompting referee Pat Russell to halt the carnage. Time was 2:34 of the tenth. In the co-feature, middleweight contender Jermain Taylor scored a ninth round TKO over former IBF 154lb champion Raul Marquez. As Taylor figured out the style of the crafty southpaw Marquez, he became increasingly dominant, finally dropping Marquez for the first time in his career in round nine. The bout was stopped when Marquez returned to his corner. After the fight Marquez stated "No more boxing for me. I'm sticking to announcing." Another impressive win for Taylor (21-0, 16 KOs). Marquez ends his career at 35-3 with 24 KOs. The card was promoted by Golden Boy Promotions in association with Top Rank and DiBella Entertainment

Scott Harrison Vs Barrera anyone?

Scott wants to prove he is the best, 'If' Barrera wants a title he may see Harrison as the least threatening title holder. The WBO have always highly ranked Barrera highly as well.

This fight may be easier to make than a unification fight for Harrison and there is still an argument to be made that Barrera is still the biggest name in the Featherweight division so the payday should be a good one.

And it could be a cracking fight IMO. More so if Barrera choses to trade with Harrison as oppose to box like he did against Hamed.

I think Barrera would outclass Harrison. Scott can do all the weight training in world but this is a skill sport and Barrera is a lot more skilled. Pacquiao would be a nightmare match for Scott. Mannys foot and handspeed to go along with his southpaw stance would be way to much for Harrison.

I had money on Barrera on points :( Looks like I underated his resilience and how much the Pac Man beat down woulda taken out of him.

Still, good to have him back in good form - after Barrera's last two appearances against British opposition, Harrison's people would be mad to let their man in with the Baby Faced Assassin.

Barrera looked good (I am in San Francisco so saw the fight on HBO). Much as I like Ayala though, he seems to be just short of top class in the featherweight division. Need to see MAB one more time before we can accurately judge whether the Manny PAc fight was an aberration or a sign that he is slipping

did you see Ringside last week, and the outdoor Fondu event? It pissed down with rain lol. I think that would happen a lot if we had more outdoor events. Last one i can remember was the Calzaghe-Jiminez 'fight' at Cardiff Castle.

It was awesome to see Barrera back in control in the ring, and it was a perfect comeback match, kudos to his promoter DLH for putting it on. Also nice to see it being held outdoors. More fights should be held outdoors in the West Coast sunshine these days! Reminds me of the days of Larry Holmes for some reason.

The most important thing about this fight for barrera is that he was the first man to only to stop Ayala, but to DESTROY him.

He's still got the skills and power to beat anyone in the divison. :o

This fight was a great confidence boost for him.
