He knows that a healthy, full size middleweight can be too much for him which is why he fights Geale at 157. And he will call it the MW title defence :shame:

Geale started his professional career in 2004 at 160. He had a few fights at 154 (the last one in 2007) but those were exceptions more than a rule. I hope he can find a good way to cut additional weight and will kick Cotto's arrogant a$$.

That spot is reserved for Pacquiao, per Brutweather rules. I wouldn't dare verbally challenge that title, it has the official seal of Lord Brut of Moneyngham.

Cotto is in a position to call the shots, can't stop him. Oh well, it's a business. Every advantage counts.

ABC orgs could do one good thing and forbid catch weight fights to be title defenses.

Miguel Cotto is not the "catchweight king" as another fighter almost certainly holds that moniker!

I honestly don’t know of another fighter in the history of the sport that has faced so many men either at catch-weights or made his opponents lose or gain 7lbs or so (since their previous fighting weight) before he was willing to share the ring with them (i.e. Cotto, Margarito, Marquez, De La Hoya, Shane Mosley, Timothy Bradley, Brandon Rios and Chris Algieri)... and we all know who I'm talking about, don't we? :OhYes: :TU:

At least get the facts straight or stop making it seem like making a fighter go up 7 pounds is some sort of hinderance. Bradley is actually now thinking about campaigning at 154

Cotto fought at 146 before he fought Pac at 145.

Marquez and Pac are in the same boat, any weight will due for them as they are not natural 147 pounders.

DLH was fought at 147 on the insistence of DE LA HOYA himself.

Brandon Rios was not a title fight.

Don't fight: Manny deserves to be the king, and Cotto can be the queen (as he is a diva).

i could understand a voluntary defense after he first won that title a year ago,
but this fight at this time is no more than an exhibition anyway. GGG is the
immediate mandatory to the winner so the outcome of this fight doesn't
matter. the winner will probably vacate after anyway rather than fight GGG

I think Geale would take another paycheck and quit early again.

Its Roach. He did the same thing with Pacquiao for several of his fights, and is fornicating pathetic. Of course Cotto agrees with it, but Roach is the guy that figures out if they drain the guy, make him come up, etc.

if you accept the fight and the weight, dont complain about the result, worst excuse of all, turn the fight down if you have issues with the weight, all the experts around here, keep harping on about how fighters should move up in weights, this is the result of fans getting their wishes

what do you mean "again." he has never quit. he didnt quit against GGG if thats the fight you refer to. This is a great fight stylistically for Geale and as long he uses the 6 weeks to lose the weight correctly he is a very live fighter in this one. Still, the "catch weight" does favour cotto considerably but it doesnt put Geale totally out of it.

Mayweather is the catchweight king. His cw with canelo was the highest profile cw fight for the most belts. This after Floyd declared pacs win over cotto invalid due to the cw

Most outrageous catchweight ever was none of the above, in my view. It was Sugar Ray Leonard "winning" the WBC light-heavy title by making Donny Lalonde come down to 168 so the fight could also be for the vacant WBC super-middle title, thereby giving SRL a world title in a division in which he never actually fought. At least when someone fights at, say, a 145 catchweight for a welterweight title they are in the welterweight division (as they weigh more than 140), even though they are not allowed to weigh 147.

Yes, he did. He was on his feet and totally alert after the KD and could continue.

LOL, that's some real funny ISH you got there with that Lord Brut of MONEYngham, I actually like that and will probably use it!!

Yes, Manny is the CW King of Boxing, he drained Cotto for Miguel's title, drained Oscar to a weight he hadn't been at in over 7 years, drained Morales and wouldn't dare face the Cheating A$$ Margarito at the real weight of 154 for a real title (not the fake one they invented for him at that weight).

So without further ado allow me to introduce you to the real King of the Catchweight Emmanuel "Manny, the Pacman" Pacquiao!! The undisputed Champ of Catchweights.

Sorry but that gets beat by a country mile by this:

Two boxers who were not even competing in a division (and of course not even ranked in the top 50 for that division) fighting for a vacant belt of a top sanctioning body at a catchweight closer to the next lowest weightclass than to the limit for the belt being contested.

Hey idiots, like 50%+ of all boxing matches are fought at a catch weight. Haven't you noticed that boxing NEEDS more weight classes than every other weight class sport? Of course it is just to milk more money from having more champions, but whatever ... I've been told by some of the geniuses here they are all necessary because a 147 pound man has an insurmountable advantage over a 140 pound man ... even though MANY fights end up with one fighter having a significant weight advantage come fight night.

Who gives a shit about catchweights? Just f#cking fight. There is a 130 pound weight class and a 135 pound weight class. Until some/most of you idiots start addressing the real problems, then you'll always have bullshit discussions like this.

Bullsh1t. Most of boxers can barely make normal weight. How is additional dehydration beneficial for them ???
