Ruslan Provodnikov has lost that agressivenes and combinations he used to thrown

I saw something in Ruslan Provodnikov since he lost to Timothy Bradley in that fight he throw flurries and looked he punch harder in the welterweight division, when he moved back to jr welterweight he still throw those powerfull flurries of punches. And ko Alvarado. But with Algieri and specially with Matthysse, he was just stalking but not throwing combinations like in the Bradley fight. Probably he will end like Jose Luis Maestrito Lopez a ver hard puncher with a concrete chin that just lack the combinations and agressivenes to be a great fighter.

I think Algieri has excellent movement and Ruslan sensed that the 2nd and 3rd punches in a combo would be way off; I think v Lucas he was hit so hard with the jab and with 3 punch combinations he was reluctant to really set and throw combinations; his effective aggression needs the right foil I think - in his flowing attacks Ruslan is both very effective and really good to watch.

If i were Ruslan, i'd be a little fed up with being the step son at the Wild Card Gym. I'd shake Freddie's hand and move on and find a trainer with a a good history of resurrecting faded champions.This is the second fight Roach sent his assistant in his stead. Virgil Hunter comes to mind as a guy that would be a good fit. He does well with those fighters that have more heart for their own good and just need to make some technical changes. Ruslan needs head movement and he needs to have more tricks up his sleeve instead of moving straight ahead and taking 4 punches to throw a wild lunging left hook.

But, Lampley did say it best the other night when Ruslan spoke about possibly retiring. If you are talking about retiring then it's too late, you are retired.

To be honest Garcia would be his best bet, but then it takes away 2 potential opponents in Rios and Maidana.
