"In boxing, I had a lot of fear. Fear was good. But, for the first time, in the bout with Muhammad Ali, I didn't have any fear. I thought, 'This is easy. This is what I've been waiting for'. No fear at all. No nervousness. And I lost" - George Foreman

Duran had beaten both brothers Adolfo and Edwin Viruet, after beating Edwin for the second time he burst into Edwin's dressing room after the bout and screamed " Next time your father ".

For funny boxing quotes Tex Cobb was very good.
When asked if he would like a rematch with Holmes, Tex replied " I don't think Larry's hands could take the punishment ".

In 1999 a jury ordered Time Inc. to pay $10.7 million to Cobb for a 1993 Sports Illustrated article that said he fixed a fight and shared cocaine with the loser. That probably wouldn't have harmed him sense of humour one little bit.

My favourite quote:
On the morning of their fight Duran and Hearns bumped into each other. Roberto said to Hearns " Today i will kill you ''.
Tommy smiled and replied " No Mas ".

Ironically Big George has made a whole lot more money out of the grill than he did in his entire boxing careers - both of them combined in fact.

Henry Cooper, replying to boxing abolitionist, Baroness Edith Summerskill, about the brutalities of his sport.

Baroness: “Mr. Cooper, have you looked in the mirror lately and seen the state of your nose?”

Cooper: “Well madam, have you looked in the mirror and seen the state of your nose? Boxing is my excuse. What’s yours?”

I think that one is a twist on something Churchill might have said to a woman many years before?

Henry no doubt would have been aware of the famous Winston jibe, that was directed at either the socialist MP Bessie Braddock or the Conservative Lady Astor, the first female MP (depending on which version of the story you hear).

When accused by one of them of being 'disgustingly drunk' the Conservative Prime Minister responded: 'My dear, you are ugly, and what’s more, you are disgustingly ugly. But tomorrow I shall be sober and you will still be disgustingly ugly.'
